Oke

How To Make Weight Loss And Muscle Gain The Powerful Lifestyle Choice

Busy people live their lives according to their diaries which is effective and efficient. Yet for some reason, often when starting an exercise program they won't book themselves in. Rather they will simply decide to exercise and sure enough because that's what they want to do, they will set out and begin. The problem is though that they are busy people and as such 'life' gets in the way of their exercise very quickly. Booking themselves for exercise is a key practice that serves to minimize the various disruptions to the kind of consistency required to achieve significant muscle gain and fat loss for a better body.
It is important in a couple of ways. First of all it creates a tangible and subconscious importance for the exercise session and as such, it is given due consideration when arranging all other affairs as opposed to always being the first thing to be sacrificed for other priorities. This small step can make an amazing difference to a person's consistency. Simply by giving the time required to create a better body at bare minimum an equal footing, people get smarter and think laterally and design their lives to be able to meet this new commitment. Of course there will still be scheduling conflicts (though far less). In these cases though, diarizing exercise alongside everything else again makes people solution focused and sharpens their organization in order to be able to make it possible to meet both objectives should a conflict arise. Exercise becomes part of the priority hierarchy and over time, may even move up the list. This means that the busy person willingly increases their commitment to exercise and will muscle gain and fat loss results faster but most importantly, they will do so in a stress free manner because exercise is balanced against all their other life priorities.
The second key once time has been 'created' for exercise is to maximize it. Does any high achiever settle for second best? Do they haphazardly attack challenges without a sound strategic understanding of various cause and effect relationships so that they can navigate a course of action that will allow them to achieve success in the most effective and efficient way possible? For busy people who want to maximize lean muscle gain and fat loss, knowing the exact specifics of the entire process is critical. By understanding how the body responds to food and training will keep you on the most productive path possible. Yet so many simply seek training methods and adopt them without any idea if they are sound because they have no objective framework with which to evaluate them. The exact same goes for various crazy diets people try. If you don't understand how food works in the body of course any option, especially if it is hyped up my slick advertising, sounds plausible.
In terms of acquiring this knowledge, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that the actual truth of this information can be a little hard to find. There are countless sources of misinformation and agenda based pseudo science to push certain viewpoints and products. At best even when you find solid information, there are some conflicting arguments that are equally valid, where only trial and error can determine the best approach. The good news is that once you find a good source of information - the truth about what the people who live with the lean muscular bodies that they desire really do it is actually reasonably easy to understand and achieve an excellent working understanding of it all. With someone who really knows what they are doing and sources of honest truth in your corner, it is no exaggeration to say that your comprehension of nutrition and training will outstrip many people in the fitness industry in about a month or even less.
In very simple terms, the second foundation is: Find out and understand the nutrition and training strategies that work best (for your individual makeup) and why. Once you know what you need to do for maximized muscle gain and fat loss, do it.
The third key is on the surface the most simple (though perhaps most esoteric) yet it completely underpins the success of the first two foundations. Once you have the first two foundations in place the third key is to just relax and enjoy the process. Don't stress about anything related to nutrition and exercise.
Busy people generally have some degree of stress in their lives already. The secret to ultimate body success is to make the process required to achieve a lean and muscular body and keep it for life become truly effortless. Get it out of your head that it's all hard work. When people think of nutrition and exercise it generally conjures up feelings of panic, pain, sacrifice and effort. Whilst some of us have a certain masochistic streak, why bother with all that when the alternative is a peace of mind and living in an effortless natural state that achieves far superior results?
Of course with any Zen-like sounding state, it will take some time to achieve and the exact process is complex topic that you could write a whole book on (maybe I might one day). The key take home message though is to make you aware and question the overwhelming societal norm to view nutrition and exercise in a certain negative light. Beyond a powerful (though unattached) desire for a successful result, I believe that the initial determination and work ethic must evolve into a peace of mind that has a calm core of absolute, unshakable certainty for long term results.
Getting the body you want in the fastest time possible for someone with a busy schedule is not about what exercises they need to do and what food they need eat. It certainly is not about exercising 'a bit' and eating a little better. It is about creating the lifestyle foundations and following systems to make it all work for you. The reward is that you will be able to take your place among the fitness elite - those who live their lives in such a way discover the body they desire, is an effortless by-product of their lifestyle.

Weight Loss And Its Effect On Ovarian Cysts

by: Hillary Templeton
Generally if you have weight loss - unexplained weight loss is always a problem and should be looked into by a doctor. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s ovary cancer. But a benign cyst, a functional cyst, any of these cysts that we talked about with the exception of the cancerous cysts which are rare, will not be associated with a weight loss. Obviously if we have pain or anxiety about a tumor or cyst often times that’s the cause of the weight loss. As far as weight gain, the weight gain is not because of a cyst. However, in the case of the polycystic ovary it’s a condition that’s sort of related. The cyst doesn’t cause the obesity but they seem to be related. And the reason for polycystic ovary disease is unknown. It’s multi-factor but again one of the treatments I mentioned was to try to get the patient to loose weight and it often helps the other symptoms.

A lot of women have been sending in questions to obstetrician Christopher Freville in relation to their nutrition and can eating certain types of food or avoiding other types of food have a, any affects on the cysts within their ovaries?
Let’s talk nutrition and perhaps we should mention certain types of drugs and what drugs might have an effect.

First of all as far as – let’s talk about food. Will nutrition help? Nutrition’s always good. Anybody that says good nutrition is not going to help the body is wrong. However, good nutrition per say is not going to resolve a cyst; it’s not going to prevent a cyst. Most of these cysts cannot be prevented because they’re functional or they’re the types of tumors or conditions that we’ve talked about and they’re totally unrelated to diet. The only condition it might be able to help would be the polycystic ovary that’s associated with diabetes and obesity, and by proper nutrition, proper diet, eliminate the obesity, decrease the tendency toward diabetes and therefore, hopefully the other symptoms might resolve as well. That would be the only case, I say that nutrition –

Now there are, and I will mention one thing because you kindly provided me with a list of questions that you’ve received from various people. And one, some health food, and this is interesting. I call it health food; we’ll call it health pills. One was Noni- Tahitian. Noni-Tahitian is the Indian mulberry plant. It grows in the South Pacific and like a lot of the natural foods there’s a lot of claims around all of these. In fact Noni-Tahitian, this is just an example. One company called Morinda, Inc. was pretty well known. It was 1998. And these can feel like a giant cystic mass, a giant sausage like soft balloon, but these are benign. But sometimes we don’t have a way of knowing until we actually get in at the time of surgery. Or, we actually can image it on ultrasound. And most of the time you’re going to go in and relieve that hydrosalpinx.

Tubal pregnancies - this is called an ectopic. Once in a while the pregnancy develops in the tube before it makes it down and these conditions are life threatening. Most of them are not, but in the process the tube can fill up with blood and before it ruptures. And this can also appear on ultrasound as a cyst and it can feel like a cyst. Most of the time a pregnancy test will be positive, and when you combine that with the enlarged tube, well you’ve got your diagnosis and saved an emergency.

We’ve talked about endometriosis, that which can be a cyst. They’re rare types of colon tumors, most of these are solid bowel abscesses, can be sometimes diverticulosis, diverticulitis. You can have abscesses that can feel - most of these, well they can feel, or present like a cyst, and they’re going to be painful. Most ovary cysts in and of themselves are not going to be causing a problem. And there are a couple of other conditions that can be mistaken for a pelvic tumor. They’re not cysts but I’m going to mention them; uterus fibroids or uterine myomas, and pelvic kidney’s. The kidney actually migrates during development. A lot of strange stuff happens to us. We’re lucky that so many of us are normal. The pelvic kidney sometimes remains in the pelvis and can feel like a tumor until the proper tests are done to identify it as a kidney. So, during the work up process all these things are considered. But, the important thing here, is that cysts themselves, in and of themselves are not going to be a problem or life threatening problem.

Why Hypnosis Really Does Help

by: Simon de Lides
If you are one of the many millions of people who struggle to maintain the proper weight, you are probably aware of the generally accepted groundrules of weight management.
The rules say that you need just two things to keep to the correct weight: proper diet and exercise. These two factors are expounded in books and programs worldwide that are the center of a billion-dollar business.
Unfortunately, that business is failing, at least in having an effect, if not in making money for its principals. The proportion of the population who are overweight, and in fact obese, is growing at an alarming rate.
And it's not just the United States, by the way. Obesity worldwide is such a concern that the World Health Organization has coined a new word "Globesity" to describe what they see as a global problem.
For many of us, "proper diet and exercise" is not a simple or an easy answer - instead, it represents a total and challenging lifestyle change. Resistance to the required change in personal eating and exercise habits and practices is what dooms many individual attempts to lose weight.
In other words, proper diet and exercise are only half of what is required to maintain a healthy weight - the physical half. It's the other half: the mental and emotional challenges, resistance to change, and difficulty in breaking habits and routines, which keep us overweight.
And, seeing that "proper diet and exercise" is fairly simple in concept, and it's the emotional and habit issues that are the sticking point, it's therefore those latter issues that we should be focussing on. This is where hypnosis can help.
Let me comment, by the way, that all this is the reason why programs like Jenny Craig, Weightwatchers, and even Overeaters Anonymous are so effective. Using meetings and counselors to allow you to interact with others, they address your emotional needs as much as the physical aspects of diet. However, the use of hypnosis can be a lot cheaper, faster, and easier.
For example, most of us have become accustomed (conditioned) to eating particular types and amounts of food on a particular schedule. It's not easy to eat less, or differently. Our tummies are used to feeling full, our brains are conditioned to eat at particular times, and we are used to particular foods, often those which are "not good" for us.
Exercise is also not that easy to insert into one's daily routine. It seems straightforward but humans are strongly resistant to it. Plus, in today's society, who has the time?
This is where hypnotic techniques can help. Hypnotherapy is about habit reconditioning and behavior modification. A course of hypnotherapy can help you modify your existing behaviors and habit patterns (in other words, the mental and emotional challenges) so that you more easily adjust to the new lifestyle required to achieve the two physical cornerstones of weight management - diet and exercise.
But, hypnosis or not, you still have to embrace the diet and exercise part. Hypnosis helps you do this.
Now, here is the good news - a good hypnotherapy program can greatly influence good weight management behavior and make a substantial difference in the adjustments required to a new diet and exercise regime.
First, hypnosis can teach you relaxation. Many of the triggers that cause people to overeat are caused by stress-related factors. The kind of relaxation learned during hypnosis techniques can greatly reduce stress, making the adjustment to new habits much easier.
Next, a good hypnotherapist will work with you to identify triggers. These are that are sabotaging good diet and exercise habits.
You may be one of those people who find yourself standing looking inside the fridge, just looking for something to eat. Your hypnotherapist will help you change those behaviors so that you only snack at fixed times, and then you only eat something good for you, such as a protein snack to prevent hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar.
We describe certain foods as comfort foods - food which is tasty to eat and filling, and generally bad for you. For some people, their entire diet is comfort food. Maybe their parents fed them comfort food at a young age when they were upset.
Whatever the reason, those bad eating habits are now engrained. Your hypnotherapist can give you suggestions to change your automatic responses when you have an upset or a "stress moment".
In fact, hypnosis can help alleviate the pangs or cravings that we tend to feel even when we are not hungry, and do not need nourishment. Often we eat because we are just used to eating at a certain time, or because our tummies are used to feeling full.
The problem with this is that over the years, we need to eat more and more to maintain that "full" feeling. Hypnosis can reverse this behavior to allow you to let go of the hunger pangs at all the wrong times.
Your hypnotherapist can also help you to change your mental patterns so that you feel better about yourself. Self-image is a big issue when it comes to weight and dieting issues.
Dieting is not difficult, as it happens. There is a huge variety of different options, including for those who want bigger portions, those who like particular foods, and so forth. It's making the adjustment to stick to a plan that makes the difference, and that's the key to success.
So, what's the game plan? First, when entering into any form of diet, exercise, or other lifestyle change, it's always a good idea to visit your doctor and get his advice on what to do and the limits. For example, if you have not exercised forever and you are 50 pounds overweight, it's not a good idea to suddenly try running 3 miles a day. You need to start slowly. So, get a diet and exercise plan from your doctor.
Next, understand that you have to take it slowly. Weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week is a standard goal, and this requires both diet and exercise. You can probably lose more in the short term by taking more extreme measures like starvation dieting. However, this will not last.
Second, understand that even with hypnosis, you are going to have to exert a little bit of will power. Hypnosis will help you greatly by making you aware of the urges and reframing your automatic responses. However, at some point you are going to have to just say "no". It's at this point that a hypnotic refresher, such as an MP3 recording, will be very effective.
There are many "Hypnosis weight loss" programs and CDs available. The best kind of program, however, is one which offers personalized individual sessions, backed up by recordings to be listened to between the sessions. Hypno To Go provides such a program, for example. Individual hypnotherapy sessions, which can be performed over the phone, are directed towards your specific weight loss issues, and can also be tailored to support the specific diet and exercise program that you have chosen or that your doctor has recommended.
Finally, know that you are not alone. Millions of people are overweight and even obese as we stated above. However, this does not mean that you can not make a difference for yourself.
Take the right steps, take them slowly, and commit to the long term, and a return to a lower weight will surely be in your future. I wish you the very best of success with your weight loss endeavors.

Why Weight Loss Pills Are Ineffective For You

by: Ted Cantu
You just bought a nighttime and daytime formula of weight loss pills. You have been taking them for … months. Lets face it, this weight is not falling off your body and you got to wonder why this is taking so long. It’s obvious there is some kind of problem here with your weight loss program. Maybe pills aren’t the answer?
Dr. Berneathy has some rather unexpected statistics on the subject of weight gain. He mentions in his talks that the body will be almost immune to weight loss pills because of one simple reason. The body has to detoxify. Your body has to get rid of all of the junk and garbage that you put into it through eating fast foods, non-foods, and harmful substances that clog up your system.
What Is Detoxification?
Being overweight and suffering from obesity are becoming all too common these days. This carries a huge load of negatives such as health risks and illness. It is for this reason you must detoxify your body.
That means getting rid of anything that’s man made. I would scrap any product that had artificial sweetners, additives, artificial coloring and preservatives in it.
I would get my hands on a green drink too ASAP. I found some liquid chlorophyll in my health food store a few months back and I liked it. I made a drink out of that with some purified water. I found this naturally uplifting and it put my body in check. My pH level increased to a deep rich green color, (yes I use the testing strips) in a matter of a few days.
You will notice some differences when you start to clean your body out. My sweat didn’t stink anymore and I had no foul odors. This sanitized my body from the inside out. I started to notice real change too in how I approached food once I was cleaned out. I didn’t have cravings for things that I thought I would miss. In fact, I had gotten so wound up in my work that I would forget to eat breakfast AND lunch. I am not suggesting that you do this but my energy level soared through the roof.
It was after I had experienced this body cleansing that I decided to do something with my exercise program and the foods I ate. I wanted to reach higher levels of this type of living. I learned one thing that Spring and that was detoxification is the key to a better life.
Getting back to the Weight Loss pills for a moment. The marketing pitch for a lot of these products claim that you can eat whatever you want and still lose the weight. The foods they show in their ads include pizza, chocolate, cake and pies. Good grief.
If you are going to detoxify yourself then make sure the foods you eat are good foods and not junk foods. There is no point in going back to a “fried chicken diet” or a “chocoholic overload diet”. If you are going to start taking care of your body and are willing to go all the way we got some good news for you.
The weight will start to come off of you after you detoxify.
Lets Get Back To Basics
So does that mean you can do all of this with diet pills? Perhaps but if you do not have the right fundamentals of weight loss and how your body reacts to certain foods you could be on the never ending rollercoaster. It is no wonder why so many diets fail when they hit the market. You need to know what combinations of food are good for you and which ones aren’t.

To learn more about detoxification and how it affects weight loss you need a coach.

Achieving Your Weight Loss Goal

Staying on target is one of the most difficult parts of dieting. This is especially difficult during the holidays and when there is a special occasion. How can you stay on target with your weight loss without missing parties and other events? There are ways to lose weight and still not deprive yourself of having fun.
Setting Short Term Goals
One of the first things you want to do in order to assure weight loss is set some short-term goals for yourself. That mans don’t focus on losing fifty pounds, but focus on losing something more realistic such as five pounds within the next two weeks. By setting more realistic goals for losing weight, there is less of a chance you will become frustrated and stop your dieting efforts. In order to stay on target, you must be able to see some accomplishments.
Have a Reward System
Another way to remain on target is to treat yourself when you meet your weight loss goals. That doesn’t mean you go out and have ice cream or another high calorie food, but treat yourself to something tangible like a new piece of jewellery, bottle of perfume, or extra time at the spa. These are things that allow you the opportunity to reach for goals but do not encourage eating in order to achieve them. Many of us have become used to using food as a reward because our parents did it to us as a way to encourage us to do well in school, go to bed on time, or behave as we should. This early conditioning is one of the easiest ways to gain weight and develop poor eating habits.

Eat Healthy Snacks
When you are attempting to lose weight, it’s important to learn to eat healthy snacks instead of sweets. That doesn’t mean you will never be able to eat ice cream or cake again, but if you develop the habit of choosing snacks such as fresh fruit, raw vegetables, and other healthy snacks, you will seldom have a craving for those high calorie carbohydrates and sugars.
Instead of depriving yourself of the things you love, enjoy the occasional sweet in small amounts when you have reached or exceeded one of your weight loss goals. Anyone who has ever dieted can attest to the fact that derivation is not the way to stay on target with your weight loss. Knowing that if you lose ten pounds in a month you can enjoy a small dish of ice cream or a small slice or cake or pie gives you something to work toward. If that sounds contradictory to what I stated above that is because we are not talking about something you do all of the time. However, you do need to become accustomed to eating less sweets and more healthy snacks in order to lose weight and stay fit.

Enjoy Your Favourite Foods in Smaller Portions
Unless you eat a great deal of high calorie, high carbohydrate foods, there is no need to give up your favourite foods. The key is learning to eat smaller portions rather than depriving yourself of everything. Certainly for some people it may be necessary to completely eliminate some foods but if you are one of those people who are overweight because of eating too much, you need to cut your portions.
Many of us are pre-conditioned to think that we need to eat until we are stuffed. In order to remain healthy, we need only eat until we are satisfied. Taking longer to eat is one of the best ways to satisfy hunger without eating more than the body requires. Learning to eat less will put you on the track to permanent weight loss and help you stay on target while you are losing weight.

Why Going Under the Knife is the Last Resort to Weight Loss

So you've tried every diet going and you've tried all the pills, patches, potions and hypnotherapy programmes and still nothing has produced the desired results. You're now desperate to the point of suicide, but you have some money put by for an emergency. Money can buy just about anything right? But, can it buy you a new body?
The answer is yes!
But before you seriously consider putting yourself at the mercy of the surgeon's knife, let's look at this drastic action in more detail.
The most common form of weight loss surgery is the gastric band, which will set you back around £8,000. Undoubtedly, the gastric band is a highly effective weight loss surgery procedure used to help overweight people achieve significant and long-term weight loss.
Basically, it's a an inflatable silicone ring that is placed around the upper part of the stomach, creating a small pouch at the top of the stomach with a small opening to the rest of the stomach. The band controls the amount of food that passes from the stomach into the digestive tract.
The object is to make you feel satisfied on much smaller amounts of food and digestion is slowed down, making you feel full for longer periods and resulting in weight loss.
A major benefit is that the band can be adjusted if necessary and can be kept in for life, ensuring that you never again become a victim of over-eating and obesity.
It's obvious that weight loss surgery works better than weight loss drugs or diets but what are the risks? There are some risks with this kind of surgery so doctors will usually only recommend it after you've tried several other ways of losing weight. Even then, surgery is not suitable for everyone. For example, your doctor may consider surgery too risky if you have heart or lung problems.
Another quite common surgical weight loss procedure is a gastric bypass, which will cost in the region of £11,000.
Known as a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, this is a highly effective weight loss surgery procedure. The operation creates a small stomach pouch in the same way as the gastric band. This is then attached to a section of the small intestine. Food then bypasses the rest of the stomach and some of the intestine. This results in you being able to consume a significantly reduced volume of food.
It is the most common form of Bariatric Surgery and is a proven method of weight loss. When combined with a supervised diet, increased physical activity and a change in behaviour habits, it can lead to long-term weight loss with all the associated health benefits.
It differs from a gastric band as it has a 2 way weight reducing effect, both restricting food volume and reducing the amount of calories the body absorbs. Also, gastric bypass surgery is preferable to some people as it does not require any adjustment, making it more convenient if you live some distance from the hospital or do not want to attend for adjustments.
Although the long-term benefits of gastric bypass surgery appear to outweigh the short-term risks, the immediate risks associated with gastric bypass surgery to treat obesity may be much higher than was previously thought.
A recent study shows that the risk of death within the first 30 days after gastric bypass surgery is at least four times higher than previously reported, and much of that risk was attributable to the surgeon's inexperience. Subsequently, the risk of dying within 30 days of surgery is about 1 in 50.
Is that a risk worth taking? I suppose it all depends on just how desperate you really are. Well, no matter how desperate you are you should always try every alternative method first. Like the much cheaper and no-risk herbal remedy option.
With this option you won't need to spend your life savings on surgery and you won't have to risk your life to lose the excess weight.

Is Weight Loss All in the Mind

Earn Money For Free
Free Sex Party
Free Money Online

by: Mary Watson
Is hypnosis the answer to losing weight quickly and safely? Well look into my eyes as I delve into the deepest, darkest recesses of the mind to find out.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, usually achieved with the help of a hypnotherapist. When you're under hypnosis, your attention is highly focused and you're more responsive to suggestions, including behaviour changes that hypnotherapists say can help you lose weight.
Many advertisers on the Internet want you to believe that because hypnosis is "natural", it cannot harm you and is therefore a superior method of weight loss.
Firstly, it cannot be claimed that hypnosis is one of the most natural ways to lose weight, because it's obviously not natural to be in a state of induced hypnosis. But, having said that, it could be a safe method. The real question is does it work?

One reason for weight gain is quite often psychological. Basically, it's all in the mind. So one way to effectively reach your weight loss goal is to reach deep down into your subconscious mind and change the way you think about food.
Imagine if you could lose weight by just relaxing and listening to a pleasant and friendly subliminal message. A message that could be implanted deep into your subconscious. A powerful message that affects your attitude to eating and exercise, without you even realising.

Hypnosis is a unique experience, but you are always in control. Hypnotherapy is rather like being in a daydream, it is a state called "trance". It might be a deep trance or it might only be a light trance.

With hypnosis there's no right or wrong way to experience it, there's just different ways for different people. In general a hypnotic trance is a very pleasant, relaxing and tranquil xperience. While hypnotised you will be aware of all physical sensations around you, perhaps even noticing sounds you wouldn't otherwise be aware of.

When you are fully conscious again you may be able to recall everything that happened while you were in your trance-like state, depending how deep your trance was.

Hypnosis can help by allowing you to overcome unconscious obstacles, which prevent you from losing weight and from keeping weight off. You know that eating too much is not what you desire and you know that exercise and sensible diet are important.

However, these are not conscious, logical issues. Successful weight loss is all about re-educating your unconscious mind and forming new healthy habits.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy work on a subconscious level to help you achieve a state of mind where you can actually lose weight willingly. Until you are genuinely willing to make these changes, your weight loss goals will seem very difficult to achieve.

So, on the surface it would appear that hypnosis as a weight loss aid has something going for it. After all, hypnosis works for smokers who are trying to give up the fags, doesn't it? Well, the truth is hypnosis is slow to produce any long-lasting results and will not work for everyone.

Studies have shown that one reason why it doesn't work is because it requires weekly consultations with a qualified hypnotist for at least 8 weeks or more in addition to any self-hypnosis or listening to some recorded message. So, In order to achieve any benefits from its use, hypnosis must be practiced on a regular basis for a significant period of time.

And, as we all want to see results almost instantly, this method is very likely to fail because we just don't have the patience to continue. Then there's the cost to consider. Hypnotherapy sessions do not come cheap.

Unfortunately, the only people who claim hypnosis is easy, simple, and effective are those trying to sell you their programme. So, in conclusion, hypnosis is just another method that seems to be making money for those who practice it.

Does the Slimming Pill Hold the Answer to Weight Loss

The "Diet Pill" has an obvious appeal to anyone who wants to lose weight fast, and with very little effort. How marvelous life would be if we could just pop a pill and body fat just melted away. Everyone knows, or should know at least, that if something sounds too easy or just too good to be true, that's because it is.

Every scientist, doctor, dietician and fitness trainer will tell you that taking diet pills is downright dangerous, but is it? And if it is, then how dangerous is it?

Well, according to scientists, some diet pills can cause panic attacks, strokes and even fatal heart attacks. Some of these "drugs", better known as phentermine are closely related to mphetamines, so they work as an appetite suppressant, stimulating the release of brain chemicals, which in turn reduces the sensations of hunger.
An overdose can lead to hallucinations, seizures, severe headaches, blurred vision and vomiting. Is all this information a little unnerving? It should be. And there's more. Here are some other so-called miracle slimming cures, which come in the form of a convenient pill.

The Diet Pill
---Amfepramone. This drug is known as "diethylpropion" in the UK, and was a prescription appetite suppressant branded as Apisate or Tenuate banned by the European Medicine Approval Agency in 1999 because of safety concerns. It works by mimicking the effects of noradrenaline in the nervous system to suppress hunger.

---Phenylpropanolamine (PPA). PPA is a vasoconstrictor used in nasal congestants and cough medicines, it is not approved in the UK for the treatment of obesity. Still used to control urinary incontinence in dogs.

---Ritalin (Methylphenidate). Ritalin is approved for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and not for weight loss. Side-effects are increased heart rate and raised blood pressure, which can greatly stress the cardio-vascular system. A schedule 2 controlled drug, classed alongside amphetamines.

---Clenbuterol. Clenbuterol was originally developed as an asthma treatment, but also seems to increase metabolic rate and causes people to lose fat and gain muscle. It is banned by the International Olympic Committee because of its abuse by athletes and body builders. Clenbuterol is also used in a veterinary product to treat breathing problems in horses. After poisoning episodes linked to the consumption of meat containing Clenbuterol residues, its use is strictly controlled.

What's very alarming about all these drugs is that they can be easily purchased over the Internet from unscrupulous dealers based outside of the European Union.

Pills that can be legitimately purchased in the UK include the popular "Slim Bomb" Weight Loss Pills. The manufacturers claim that many years of extensive research have gone into this little blue pill and that the formula has undergone many rigorous changes to produce the latest and very effective offering.

These pills are manufactured from a combination of herbal extracts and other natural substances that are thought to cause a thermogenesis reaction in the body. This reaction is supposed to stimulate and accelerate the metabolic rate, which in turn reduces hunger cravings and produce the kind of calorie burning effects more associated with body activity, such as exercise. Although all the ingredients appear to be organic in origin, no clinical evidence exists to confirm its effectiveness as a weight loss aid.

So, what can we deduce from this information about slimming pills? It would seem at worse they are dangerous to your health and at best they simply don't work. Dieters should avoid buying any pills available only online, as their pedigree is dubious at best, and may not comply with EU regulations.

by: Cheryl Estorgio
Will I ever find my soulmate? Is there a perfect soulmate somewhere for me? I often heard this questions which surpasses from every generation in finding someone to whom we feel constantly connected and personal relationship with. Being in a relationship is a challenging yet dramatic one. Just as what we see in the movie, read in novels, it is just a series of ups and down situation, a climax and an end. Many relationships end up nothing, why? Were we mistaken? Was that person not our soulmate? Or we just cant able to make things work out?

I had been in a relationship that for me, perhaps the man to share my whole life with but eventually as the relationship goes on I found it not productive and somewhat possessive. I was just dreaming of a perfect relationship just like some fairy tales do. “And they live happily ever after,” but in reality, it is not like that.
Most relationship does not work out because we are finding for something best, an ideal partner and ideal relationship. We are creating our soulmate relationship in the future today. In a loving relationship, both persons have a positive reception for individual differences and needs. If troubles occur, nurture the relationship, correspond always, and be patience. If mutual efforts and counseling is done to make the relationship harmonious but still does not work out? Then, don’t stick on it! It’s not anymore healthy to pursue a relationship like that. It will not improve you as a person. A major key to a healthy relationship is to see the holiness in each other. Relationship which is based on physical attraction, need and money issues will sooner or later break- ups will occur. Every relationship serves a purpose and must be treasured for it will give us spiritual growth. We should be thankful for the experiences we had in a relationship which able us learn from it.
I believe with this phrase in a poem by William Earnest Henley, “I am the captain of my fate; I am the master of my soul”. The circumstances we are in correspond to every action we do in life. Life is what we make it. We are the author of our destiny to create a relationship we want in every new possibilities we imagine. To make it more romantic and with intense intimacy not just what we see in movies but a relationship which is bonded spiritually with love. For me, finding your soulmate is just like finding your special someone. This soulmate experience offers us a chance to start with romantic love and nourish in our hearts and spirits towards something higher. It is not impossible but rather thinks of some possibilities to meet some people to share your life with, be it for friendship or marriage.

We can create a soulmate experience today and obtain the positive benefits of this connection forever more. For those who want to love genuinely and passionately, start finding your soulmate and begin here at http://www.filipinasplendor.com Why not here and now?

All Souls' Day: Unbiblical, Mere Invention, and Money-Making Festival

by: Sustines Laplana
I was serving the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the St. Augustine Parish, Diocese of Surigao del Sur (Philippines) as a Sacristan from 1985 to 1991, and as Sacristan Mayor from 1991 - 1993. And during those times, the observance of the All Souls' Day was one of the busiest days for me. I was the one who prepared things which would be used in the celebration of Mass held in one cemetry to another.
When everything was done, I felt the happiness, the joy which strengthen my tired body, for I believed that what I did glorified God.
But when I discovered the truth recorded on the Bible, regret filled my heart. I was really sorry for my self for wasting my strength, my time and my life doing those vain things in front of God.
To let you know, never in the bible that All Souls Day mentioned and was observed by the first century Christian. Christ never taught doctrines behind this festival.
The observance of All Souls' Day is actually based on the invented doctrine of the roman Catholic church on Purgatory.
"All souls' Day, in the Roman Catholic Church, a day for commemoration of all the faithful departed, those baptized Christian who are believed to be in purgatory because they have died with the guilt of lesser sins on their souls, celebrated on Novermber 2 or November 3 if November 2 is Sunday..." (The New Encyclopeadia Britannica, Micropeadia, 15th Ed., s.v. 'All Souls' Day')
And those said souls in purgatory have nothing to do for themselves to shorten their sufferings:
"The poor souls in purgatory cannot do anything for themselves to shorten their suffering. But Christ, their Redeemer, is always speaking to the Father for them, and Mary and the other Saints are also praying through Christ and with Christ." (A Catholic Catechism, p. 337)
So Christ, Mary and the other Catholic Saints, according to the Catholic Catechism, are praying for the souls in purgatory. And not only that, the living should help those souls in purgatory too:
"We should be generous in helping the poor souls in purgatory, who long for God. The best thing we can do for them is to have Masses offered for them. The church puts no limit to the time during which we may pray or offer Masses for the suffering souls in purgatory. If we cannot have a Mass said, we should at least hear Masses for our dead departed. If God so wiulled, a single Mass could release all the souls in purgatory. We should offer Masses especially on All Souls' day and on the anniversary of the death of our relatives and friends." (My Catholic Faith by Louis LaRavoire Morrow, D.D., p. 258)
That's why Catholics observe the All Souls' Day to help the souls that are suffering in purgatory.
But what is purgatory? According to the book "A Handbook of the Catholic Faith", purgatory was derived from the word 'purgatoin':
"The word Purgatory is derived from purgation, which means purification as well as penance. It is consequently a state which purifies and cleanses the souls as with fire." (p. 460)
Catholic authorities are teaching this doctrine to the Catholic Church eventhough they do know that purgatory is not written in the Bible.
"Scriptures and Christian tradition undoubtedly affirm that heaven and hell exist, but what about that mysterious 'third state' that Catholics and some other Christias call 'purgatory'. The term itself is not found in the Bible..." (Catholic and Christian, by Allan Sckreck, p. 195)
The purgatory doctrine is based only on men's tradition:
"THE IDEA OF PURGATORY finds its roots in buddhism and other ancient religious system, long before the existence of the Roman Catholic Church. Evidences of its introduction in Christian thought are found in some of the writings of the early church Fathers, as far back as the third and fourth centuries of the Christian era, but it had no officially recognized place until the time of Gregory I." (Roman Catholism in the Light of Scriptures, p. 107)
Since this doctrine is not coming from Christ nor from the Apostles but from the tradition of men, we should condemn it because the Bible said so:
7 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’[a]
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men[b]—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”
9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. (Mark 7:7-9, NKJV)
The Roman Catholic Church couldn't condemn the doctrine of purgatory that they invented because through it they will earn much. The Bible, of course, know about this "Merchandise of Souls" of the Roman Catholic Church:
11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. (Revelation 18:11-13, ibid)
This "Merchandising of Souls" is done through the marriage of Purgatory and Mass doctrines:
"Purgatory had been invented by Rome in A.D. 593 but it remained a very unpopular doctrine for many centuries. When Mass came into being however, these two innovations of the roman Church became inseparably connected with each other. The question came up in Roman circles: 'Can Mass of an alleged infinite spiritual value deliver the Souls in Purgatory?' The Pope soon accepted this new idea and the Mass imposture in connection with Purgatory was born. Today our readers know what a financial success the marriage of Mass and Purgatory has been. There is not a single product in the world today that has been more successful financially than these two religious doctrines, Mass and Purgatory." (I Was A Priest, by Lucien Vinet, p. 43-44)
This money-making doctrines became successful because all Catholics are told to help the poor souls in Purgatory by offering Masses for them, especially on All Souls' Day:
"We should be generous in helping the poor souls in purgatory, who long for God. The best thing we can do for them is to have Masses offered for them. The church puts no limit to the time during which we may pray or offer Masses for the suffering souls in purgatory. If we cannot have a Mass said, we should at least hear Masses for our dead departed. If God so wiulled, a single Mass could release all the souls in purgatory. We should offer Masses especially on All Souls' day and on the anniversary of the death of our relatives and friends." (My Catholic Faith by Louis LaRavoire Morrow, D.D., p. 258)
So, on November 2 or November 3, the Roman Catholic Church will again gain much money as Traders of Souls, merchandising the lost souls.

Are The Souls of the Dead Alive?

by: Sustines Laplana
It is our belief that the souls of the dead can still talk to us and can even made themselves appear in front of us especially when they have messages to tell us. Two of those who experienced amazing experience is my aunt and my mom.

My aunt, told me that she once had an illness which was caused or given by her aunt who was already dead for a long time. This illness was not cured through the medicine she took according to the prescription given by her doctor. However, when she did the instructions of the "tambalan" (local healer) to pay for a Mass for her dead loveones, her illness eventually cured.

My mother had different experience related to the souls of the dead. When my father was still alive but bedridden, she used to cast wandering souls away from my father by hitting all corners of our house with the broom. She did it when dogs outside of our house were crying. Those souls according to my mother were waiting for my father to die.
There are actually many stories I heard about souls wandering here in earth. Those are all amazing, and that even if we are not sure how true are they, we ended up in believing them.

However, as Christian we should examine them by using the Holy Bible whether they are in accordance with the truth recorded in the Bible or not for we all know that only the Bible can tell us what's true or not regarding spiritual matter.

To start with, let us ask the Bible: Is it true that the dead can still communicate to the living? And this is the answer of the Bible:

5 For the living know that they will die;
But the dead know nothing,
And they have no more reward,
For the memory of them is forgotten. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, NKJV)

According to the Bible, the dead know nothing for the memory of them is forgotten. In other words, they can't even recognize us as one of their loveones and they can't even remember the things they've done when they're still living.

Do they still feel their love, hatred and envy? The Bible again answered:

6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished;
Nevermore will they have a share
In anything done under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 9:6, ibid.)

It is said that the love, hatred and envy of the dead have perished already. And it is also clear according to the Bible, that "nevermore will they have a share in anything done under the sun". So, they can't even participate us in everything we do here in earth.

By why? Why is it that the dead can no longer deal with the living? Isn't it true that the souls of the dead are still alive?

Well. The teaching of the Holy Bible is clear. When man dies, he lies down in the dust:

21 Why then do You not pardon my transgression,
And take away my iniquity?
For now I will lie down in the dust,
And You will seek me diligently,
But I will no longer be.” (Job 7:21, ibid)

And the souls of the dead bowed down to the dust:

25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
Our body clings to the ground. (Psalms 44:25, ibid)

So, it is not true that the souls of the dead is still alive. The Holy Bible even made clear that the souls who sin will die:

4 " Behold, all souls are Mine;
The soul of the father
As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
The soul who sins shall die. (Ezekiel 18:4, ibid)

The Bible also tells us that the dead will not rise until now, while the heavens still exist because according the the Bible:

10 But man dies and is laid away;
Indeed he breathes his last
And where is he?
11 As water disappears from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dries up,
12 So man lies down and does not rise.
Till the heavens are no more,
They will not awake
Nor be roused from their sleep. (Job 14:10-12, ibid)

We should not forget this: The dead will rise only when the heavens disappear. But when will it be? Apostle Peter said:

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.[a] 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? (II Peter 3:10-12, ibid)

The time when the heavens disappear is on the day of the Lord which is the judgment day. In other words, the dead remains in grave and on the day of judgment they will rise up from the dead.

Therefore, the belief and stories about the souls of the dead that said to be wandering in earth are not true and are only products of man's imagination and misconception. It is the Bible who taught us the truth that the souls of the dead are still on the dust, and that the dead coudn't partcipate in all activities of the living for the dead are still lying in the dust and will rise only on the day of the Lord.

Is Your Love Just A Soul Mate Or Thee Twin Flame?

by: Tonya Somers
If you have met your twin flame there will no drama - none. If you have met your soul mate, there always will be issues.
If you have met someone and either of you are married at the time then they are NOT your twin flame, they are NOT the love of your life.

Soul Mates
The term, ”Soul Mate,” is very commonly misunderstood and mis-used. Sometimes a soul mate is a very loving partner but in most cases, they should come with huge warning labels on the forehead, read below for more explanations, yes you want your twin flame, or at least someone that you have NO past lives or unfinished karma with.
A twin flame comes into your life with a truly clean slate, ready for you and no drama at all. Please keep reading and feel free to pass this page to your friends and loved ones in tough relationships.

Soul Mates
The term, ”Soul Mate,” is very commonly misunderstood and misused. This is because the "900 number" commercials use the term soul mate frequently and incorrectly, confusing it with the term "Twin Flame". The "900 lines" would lead you to believe that you have found your one true other half (Twin Flame) when, in reality, you have found only ONE of your many SOUL MATES. Sometimes a soul mate is a very loving partner but in most cases, they should come with huge warning labels on the forehead:

TURN AROUND, RUN NOW, MEGA LIFE CHANGING DANGER APPROACHING!
HEAD GAMES, LIAR, CHEATER, ADDICT, CRAZY MAKER APPROACHING!

Soul mates come into our lives to teach us lessons. These lesson givers quite often come into our lives as alcoholics, abusers, gamblers, addicts, cheaters, once a cheater always a cheater, have depression issues, had a dysfunctional childhood, a drama queen or king, sex-addicts, bosses, emotionally unavailable or your best friend's mate. I know this sounds like half the population, but beware of the true nature of the soul mate. There is always an issue to deal with from a past life or unfinished soul mate business.
Are you about to become caught up in the constant chaos they can and will bring into your life? Will your soul-mate become your addiction?
Before you step into this mess that you may wish later you could just scrape off your shoes, ask yourself, would you fix this person up with your best friend or even a stranger?
If not, why would you date them yourself? There is always a messy complication but with a huge amount of electricity and chemistry/pull to keep you in the game.

PAY ATTENTION TO ALL RED FLAGS! THEY ARE VALID WARNINGS.

That's our own intuition talking to us. Unfortunately with a soul mate, often times we choose to ignore all the warning signs. Often we don’t even like this person when we first meet them, but we allow this lesson into our lives anyway. Yes, it makes us stronger and hopefully we learn not to repeat the same relationship mistakes, but the Universe will continue to bring us these soul mate lessons until we learn.
The truth is, a soul mate will always come into your life with major KARMA for you to deal with. The good news is you don’t have to play. You can choose to not engage in the lesson (hopefully, because you've already learned it). If you choose to stay and play, be sure to hang on (mostly to your sanity), because this is when the roller coaster ride starts and all the games begin!
Every relationship is a mirror that helps us to learn more about ourselves. They are the most challenging and the most rewarding aspects of life. The more intimate the relationship the greater the opportunity for growth we are given. If an issue or person has an emotional “charge” to it, then you still have work to do. This mirror is the hardest to look at because it reflects the issues you have not yet finished in your life. These are the things that we are the most blind to. Hence, beware of the soul mate. I know I sound repetitive but someone has to tell you!
Self-understanding is the entire reason for these mirrors -- not to ‘fix’ the other person, but to look at yourself and learn. The primary reason for most soul mate relationships is so you can work on your spiritual self and your karma! So with that said, the more you clear up issues for yourself and the more YOU ARE the ‘right’ person; the sooner you will attract the twin flame you are looking for.
Soul mates share a common mission and comparable stage of spiritual development. They come together because they are working on the same type of karma and the same chakra simultaneously. Soul mates have an attraction that is based on the sacred labor and on the path of self-mastery on your personal spiritual path.
In a soul mate relationship there is always a connection between you from prior lives. Keep in mind that you can have as many as 3000 soul mates in one life time. You have not been happily married to each of them but in some cases you have killed each other or you may have been each other's parents, siblings or battling next-door neighbors.
Quite often in readings, I see a similar pattern for many couples. For example, when a couple is experiencing a horrible sex life, it is often because they were siblings in a past life and therefore the intimate relationship in their current life feels wrong. Another common pattern is marrying someone who was our parent in a past life, which provides an opportunity to work out whatever unresolved lessons you might have from the past. In many cases issues are reversed from lifetime to lifetime so that we might learn how the other person felt.
Whenever you consider breaking up with a soul mate, it seems A GIANT MAGNET appears in the sky making you both run into each other in the strangest of places. Soul mates can feel you come in the door when you come home or know when you're in a crowded place. A soul mate can project his/her thoughts onto you so it becomes unclear if you are thinking of them or they are projecting their thoughts on you so that you can’t tell if they are thinking of you, or you are missing them. It takes a lot to break free from a soul mate, often times you'll break up 6 to 20 times.
A word of warning if you choose to marry one of your soul mates: Do NOT COMPLAIN constantly to your friends and family about your relationship. They won't understand that you've chosen each other as a contract of lessons and you'll only make the other people in your life despise your spouse.

Twin Flames
Twin flames are ourselves in another body. When we have reached the stage where we are capable of giving unconditional love, we then have the opportunity to reconnect with our “other half” or twin flame. The chances are that we meet our twin flame briefly in many lifetimes, but one or both of us are not ready for the intensity of this connection. When both halves of the whole are ready to come back together and meet they will discover that in their lifetime they have lead almost parallel lives.
The events of their lives will mirror each other almost exactly. They may have come from very similar families and family dynamics. They may have had similar schooling or lack thereof. They may have crossed paths socially or lived close by to each other and never known it. They may have almost identical careers. They may even have previous marriages and divorces within weeks of each other. When twin flames get to know each other, they will feel as if the other is reading their life script. That isn't to say they are identical people, but they are perfectly complimentary to each other.
When twin flames meet for the first time in a physical life, they recognize themselves in the other person. This will come as a deep surprise to both, but the recognition is immediate. At the same time you will feel that you have always known this person who is sitting in front of you. It is a feeling of home-coming, because you recognize your other self and feel very much that you have come home when you are with your spiritual twin flame counterpart. Be aware that soul mates also have a strong recognition pattern, only there will be that little voice in your head that knows the difference.
When twin flames come together they become one, they are not like each other but they are the mirror image of the other. They think alike, they hold the same values and often their life experiences are very similar. Twin flames do not teach each other, they learn together and help each other learn the lessons that have been set before them in this lifetime. When twin flames come together they join forces and are capable of overcoming obstacles the average mortal could not begin to face. They are so filled with unconditional love they literally glow with it and have much to share with others. They are the inspiration that poets write about and singers sing about.
Once in awhile, yes I have seen twin flames come together and not make it work, this is only because you have chosen different life lessons this time around and you do not fit as lovers, but you always be best freinds.
Fortunately, you also have me to help you determine the difference. When you are ready to break your unhealthy patterns of attracting unhealthy soul mates, I have many tools to help you set you free. I can help you attract your twin flame or at the very least, someone you have no karma with so that you can go into a relationship with a clean slate.

There can be a happy medium in love
No one is perfect and not one person can make us totally happy, we need to make ourselves happy first. Love needs to be a bonus, a plus not a negative.
The first year of any relationship you are building the foundation, see your buddies and keep your hobbies this will build a healthy long lasting love life together. Eventually the beginning of love wears off and we all miss our buddies and time alone, never stop seeing them then later you can avoid the questions, why now? When you want to start seeing your friends again, why now, what is wrong with us now?
Are you ready to jump off that drama trauma train?
As always, when you meet someone, ask them for their birthday and then call me.

Gangster Affiliated is building a brand that is gripping the hearts and souls of urban America and the suburbs

A true brand builds relationships with it's customers. They think the same thoughts, have the same beliefs and speak the same language and this is exactly what Gangster Affiliated had been doing since day one.

Although the company only sells pricey t-shirts and recently high-end polos, the brand has built a following of over 200,000 repeat customers from around the world.

Not wanting to be classified as a hip hop brand, CEO and founder, Byron Davenport has claimed and positioned the company as the first and only brand for gangsters, hustlers, players and real die hard go-getters.
There are hip hop brands, graffiti brands, skate brands, surf brands and now there is a gangster brand with a starving crowd. Byron stated in a recent interview when ask why was he promoting being a gangster his reply was "it's my belief that in order to scale great heights in life be it legal or illegal more likely than not you are going to have to do some gangster things to get where you're trying to go. Whenever you go up the ladder and you're trying to get all the way to top you're going to have to be not just focused but you're going to have to also have that gangster mentality so to speak. The mentality that says I'm not allowing anything or anyone to stand in my way not even my own mother. As one goes up the ladder of success his or her responsibility goes up as well and as one continues to grow and succeed certain things and situations come up and you have to make the call when it's time. And that call may have to be brutal but it's your life or his. A gangster will always push forward no matter what.

How do you think George Bush, his daddy, The Clinton's, Reagan, Trump, Gates, Getty, Rockerfellers, Kennedy's, Vanderbilts, Duponts and many others has gotten to be prominent and successful, certainly not by being common folks or nice. How did America become number one? America was found on gangsterism and that mentality.

He goes on to say your level of success determines the level of your sacrifice and when a person is on a mission to get to the top of the food chain you have to do what you have to do no questions ask. And in our society today this is the mentality our young people have and strive for. The world that we live in encourages us to take life by the reins and this is what the Gangster Affiliated brand is about".

Being true to his gangster beliefs and staying focused, after he was released from Federal prison in 2002, after serving 12 years for money laundering, continuing criminal enterprise and distribution of cocaine into the United States, he launched an upscale mobile detailing service in Newport Beach, Ca, shortly after he launched the clothing label Gangster Affiliated and by 2006 he released a self published book titled The fundamentals of a gangster which is still flying off the internet.

The Gangster Affiliated label is a success and it shares the wisdom of achieving success with all of it's Gangster Affiliated members.

Mystery of the Soul Part 3

In general, the various branches of parapsychological study related to the soul are Near-Death Experience (NDE); Out-of-the-Body Experience (OBE); Biomagnetic Radiation/Field (aura); Hauntings; Posessions; Bilocation; Past-Life Regression, and ESP.
Many instruments and methods are used in the investigation of psychic phenomena. Hypnosis is often used to uncover subconscious knowledge on a subject. Such a method has been successful in regressing a person to a past life and even between lifetimes. Much knowledge related to the after-life and the soul's continued existence have thus been acquired.
Unorthodox methods that purports to contact disembodied intelligence might include séances, the Ouija board, the planchette, automatic writing, and the pendulum; some of these methods are similar to the Indonesian Jailangkung and Nini Towok.
One of the former presidents of the Society of Psychical Research, C.D. Broad (1887-1971), believed that paranormal research might eventually prove that psychological events can survive bodily death. He theorized that man had an invisible constituent; this he called the psi-component, or "psychogenic factor." Ever since the days of Broad, parapsychology has indeed made much progress.

METAPHYSICAL VIEWPOINTS

When we speak of the viewpoints of metaphysics questions might arise inquiring of the source of these teachings. Generally speaking, the tenets of metaphysics are derived from the esoteric transmissions of lofty beings to select members of the human family. These beings have already evolved far beyond the human kingdom and its pinnacle--the perfect human being as portrayed by the archetype Adam Kadmon. These teachings are based on their personal experiences and awareness of the Truth of all things. Some of the students of these lofty beings were able to verify, again by personal experience, part of the teachings that was conveyed by these Spiritual Masters. This would leave aspects of metaphysical teachings as theoretical or hypothetical from the student's perspective.

There are also metaphysical teachings that have been formulated by students intellectually without knowing its truth experientially before-hand and may consequently be without a foundation in reality. This is the reason why certain metaphysical doctrines are ever-evolving. May the reader ever keep this in mind.

From the superficial investigation of metaphysical conceptions one comes to the conclusion that they are as diverse as the many theories developed by science or theology; however, in essence they all share a common thread in that the soul, the spirit intelligence, is regarded as being a distinctive part of the human organism and has a divine origin. One of the most basic fundamentals in contemporary metaphysics is that there is only One Substance, One Power, One Life, One Mind, One Law in the whole Universe, and each being in its innermost "I AM" core, is part of that One. The other laws and principles of metaphysics stems from this basis. The above statement is not entirely accurate, however. We referred to the One as being in the Universe, when in fact, it is entirely opposite. The Universe is in the One, or is a partial manifestation of the One. To the metaphysician, everything has a divine origin and is essentially eternal. We emphasize the word "essentially," for there is a difference between form and expression, and its divine essence. For instance we may liken the essence with electricity, the form-the electric bulb, the clarity and power (wattage) of the bulb its expression. Electricity is indestructible, so is the Spirit, the divine intelligence in man. The bulb, the form of man, is ephemeral in nature. The clarity and the wattage, the power that it gives off, is the evolving aspect of man called the soul. The clarity is dependent upon the purity of the bulb, or the soul. It is often tainted by dust and dirt--or the negative emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes. This illustration would indicate that the Spirit is immortal, the form transient, and the soul that aspect of the microcosm that seeks to ever grow spiritually until it is aware of its essential nature. By being aware it becomes immortal, meaning that it is continually conscious of its essential nature. The soul, therefore, is only potentially immortal.

After making our statements above, it should be understood that the soul-concept is ever-evolving, whether from the scientific, theological, philosophical, or metaphysical point of view. One could argue that truth is changeless and that what was true in the past is likewise true for the present and the future. We concur with this, but the problem here is man's understanding of truth, and the presentation of truth, and not truth itself. Metaphysics may be understood intellectually--this has its limitations; or it may be understood mystically--this provides real knowledge that the intellect has trouble analyzing, formulating into ideas, and putting into words.

One school of metaphysical thought believes the soul to be a function or development arising out of the vital life force that animates all living forms. This vital life force permeates the whole universe. Matter is evolving to the point where it may support life while living organisms evolve to the point where they may eventually support the development of self-consciousness, and this we call "the soul." However, this does not signify that souls are dependent upon matter for their existence. They are associated with the vital principle of the universe. Some scientists regard the universe as a living organism, or a living thought rather than something lifeless or mechanical. The soul or self-consciousness may be regarded as a higher expression of the life-force that permeates the universe. This signifies that the soul is a dynamic potential inherent within energy. As energy is indestructible, so is the soul in its essence indestructible. As energy is kinetic, forever in movement, so is the soul never the same in its expression--it continually evolves.

Esoteric teachings classify the microcosm into, three, five, or even seven aspects. In the threefold division we have Personality, Soul, and Spirit; or in Indonesian we may say Jiwa, Roh, and Sukma--but keep in mind what we have said before that there is no standard agreement as to the terms used. Sukma may be called "Ingsun," "Atma," "the Self," whatever. Terms are not important in this context, principles are. In the Judaic Qaballa, the threefold microcosm is designated as Nephesh, Neshamah/Ruah, and Yechidah. In Buddhism as Nirmanakaya, Sambogakaya, and Dharmakaya. In Theosophy as Personality, Ego, and Monad. In Hinduism as Rupa, Jiwa, and Atma. In ancient Egypt as Khat, Ka , and Ba.
These threefold divisions have subdivisions. In certain Hindu teachings they are subdivided into five. Theosophical and Rosicrucian teachings divides the microcosm into seven:

[Please visit our website for the table]

In the Rosicrucian system, the Divine, Life and Human Spirit may be considered as the Soul. The Monad as the Spirit, and the other lower components as the Personality. Each of these components of the microcosm reside in their own plane or dimension, and they are composed of the substances of their respective realm. Each has its own particular function in the operation of the microcosm. Each component vibrates at a certain frequency. Vibrations may be perceived as sound, light, or hue. The seven components of the microcosm, therefore, collectively produces a musical chord, or as a certain color--the conglomeration of all the colors of the components. This collective sound or color may be said to be our "soul" name. This sound may be dissonant or harmonious depending upon one's soul-development. Each microcosm vibrates at a different frequency; there are no two microcosms quite alike, just as there are no two snowflakes of the exact same pattern. Each component of the microcosm has its primary faculty. The intellect is the faculty of the Lower Mental, the imagination of the Higher Mental, the Intuition of Buddhi, and Inspiration of Atma.

Since this is not a thesis on the occult anatomy of man we will not delve too deeply into the subject, suffice to say that there are many more components in the microcosm than what we have referred to above that are vibrating at a frequency undetectable as yet by our modern technological instruments. However, we will discuss a little so as to give a brief picture of man's hidden composition.

Aside from the seven major components in man, the microcosm, there is also the thread that connects them all. This is called the sutratma. Forces and impulses from the highest aspect of the microcosm flows to the lower aspects via this connecting bridge. Our reaching up towards our divine Source builds another bridge called the antahkarana. This antahkarana grows from the lowest aspect of the microcosm and eventually anchors itself to the Monad.

The etheric body of man is constructed out of "lines of force." These are the counterpart of the physical nervous system. Where they criss-cross a power-spot is formed. These are the acupuncture points, the minor and major chakras, and the tan-tiens. Certain energies from external sources accumulate in the etheric body of man. Kundalini is one of them. Kundalini is the cosmic fire, the force that has the power to purify and awaken the lower energy structures of the microcosm. When it awakens it flows through certain pathways of the etheric body. There are various main channels associated with kundalini awakening.

Another vital aspect of the microcosm are the seed atoms. These atoms are records of the evolutionary development of the soul, physically, emotionally, and mentally. They also store our karmic tendencies, expressions, and records. Though each of the seven components of the microcosm has its seed, only three are normally considered in esoteric writings. These are the Physical Seed-Atom, the Emotional Seed-Atom, and the Mental Seed-Atom. Each of these seed atoms has its position in the physical body. The mental seed atom lies in the pineal gland, and this is where our consciousness is seemingly focused. As can be seen from this, Descartes was not entirely wrong in presuming the pineal gland to be the seat of the soul.

As we said before, the seeds are records. They may be thought of as our recording angels. They record our every thought, feeling, and action. Our karma are stored in these seeds as well, and from time to time, when the time is ripe, they release the effects of the karma that we put into motion in our past. The timing of this is determined by a higher aspect of the microcosm, the Ego and our Solar Angel in conjunction with the advice and decree of the Lords of Karma--those beings that assists humanity in balancing and harmonizing all karmic actions.

The pineal gland is also the host of other spiritual components, and this is what makes it the most important gland of the endocrine system. The pineal and pituitary glands are psychic complementaries and their harmonized functioning results in a more perfect human expression. They are there not merely to secrete the known hormones but they play an important role in occult physiology. We regret that very little can be said in this paper.

Within the physical heart lies a spark of the Ego, the Soul, or the Higher Self. The Upanishads refer to this as the "Supreme Person, the size of the thumb." This spark is threefold in nature, in has three aspects-power/will, love/wisdom, intelligence/activity. They are represented by three colours-blue, pink, and yellow, respectively.

According to mystical thought the physical body is the temple of the soul, and although religion is in agreement, many religious persons have turned their temple into a tomb, with its occupant dead asleep in the darkness of ignorance. Outward ceremonies, forms, and rituals are actually devoid of any true spiritual benefit when mechanically conducted. They may please the emotions but they deceive devotees into believing in their piousness. The outward forms are merely signs of spiritual realities within. It is by understanding and living these realities that one progresses in a true religious sense. For instance, formal religion may ask us to pray once a day, or five times a day; but in true religion we have to be in a constant state of prayer, "25 hours a day, 8 days a week." Prayer is a certain mental attitude and awareness. It is not in requesting something but accepting that all that we could ever ask for is ours and is being done to us right now. Succinctly, Religion is Mysticism poorly understood as Science is its child that is undergoing a maturing process. More could be said of this but we would stray too far from our main subject.

Origin of the Soul

Man's innermost being is the Monad. This is the SELF, the God within Man. Its nature is Sat-Chit-Ananda--Existence, Consciousness, and Bliss. The Monad is a spark of the Divine Flame which is the One Existence. The Monad is not a creation, it is an emanation. It is God individualized within the microcosm. The Ego, or the Soul, is in turn an emanation of the Monad, and the Personality an emanation of the Soul. It is the Soul that "creates" the physical body.

All things are manifestations of the One. IT manifests as energy. Energy is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. It is indestructible and eternal. Man, like everything else is made up of energy. He has certain magnetic fields and structures all composed of energy. The Monad within man qualitatively speaking is of God, is God. Quantitatively, the Monad is but a miniscule fragment of the infinite whole. When man is aware of his divine SELF-nature, he experiences the inner essence, the God within and thus declares "unification" with his Source. He realizes that essentially he is "God"--however, keep in mind that this refers to the God nature within and not to God's totality, to the essence of man and not to his physical form or false ego. Like Jesus Christ he affirms: "I and my Father are one." This is not blasphemy as theology might teach us. It is the recognition of the love of our Source who has bestowed ITs very being upon us. IT has given us ITs identity. This whole notion might be incomprehensible to some, nevertheless, it is a Truth experienced by mystics of all generations and cultures. There is no separation between God and Man, between God and the Universe. God is immanent within all, and also transcends all. The forgetfulness of this divine union is Man's fall from divine grace. Man ate the forbidden fruit of intellectual knowledge and has forgotten his essential nature. This densified his being and he was made to wear "animal skins," that is, the physical body. Man's innermost being is Light, but because of ignorance he fell into the lower dimensions. Each dimensional descent enshrouded his light with a thicker and thicker vestment until finally he wore animal skins in the three-dimensional world and entrapped himself in matter--the most stupid part of the Mind as Leibnitz said. Man's original sin is the sin of ignorance and forgetfulness. He who will hear let him hear!

Purpose of the Soul: Evolution

Change is one of the laws of the universe, it results in the cycles of creation/destruction; involution/evolution, etc. The Monad, a spark of the One, is in essence divine. It possesses a divine collective consciousness without any particular awareness of individuality and separation from its Source. However, it was emanated by its Progenitor for a purpose. As a focus point of the One Being it was manifested so that the One could experience various aspects of Itself, to grow in awareness of ITs inner potentiality, nature and power. In order to do that it had to further densify ITs being to the lowest possible dimensional reality. This is the act of involution. Thus, the Monad issued from itself a threefold-Soul which in turned manifested the four-lower bodies: the physical, etheric, astral, and lower mental. Having undergone the involutionary cycle, man is now on the upward path. Humanity is presently on the path of evolution as a continuance of its soul-journey and purpose. Along the path of evolution humanity's consciousness grew through various lower consciousness levels typified by the consciousness of the minerals, plants, and animals, until finally it attained human-consciousness. What is the end of the soul's journey? It probably has none. There is no end to evolution in the school of life, or spiritual and cosmic growth. We could say that the end is to merge with God but that is only half the truth. Words cannot express what goes on beyond that, neither can the intellect conceive. Absolute Inertia does not exist in the universe. Galaxies are born, and galaxies die, this goes on eternally. By attaining God-Consciousness, or a higher consciousness level, one goes on to even more lofty spiritual heights that are beyond human understanding. The human kingdom is not the ultimate achievement, infinite possibilities lies before the evolving soul. With God all things are possible--and God partly lies within our being experiencing all things th!
rough us. We concede that what we have said above is not easil!
y assimi
lable and is controversial; however, realize that we do not force ideas upon anyone. It is rather difficult for us to convey abstract ideas with words, therefore, a debate upon this is needless. What we have explained above is simply the main points regarding the soul's purpose and its cosmic trek, and is not to be considered as the whole-truth. It is merely a partial revelation. The whole subject of the soul's purpose would take us deep into the study of cycles, rhythms, spiritual races, etc.

There are two aspects of evolution: the evolution of form and the evolution of consciousness; and also two factors regarding the soul to consider: soul essence and soul expressions. When we speak of evolution we refer to the consciousness aspect, and the expression of the soul of its innate divinity.

It takes a complex nervous system and brain to support a higher expression of the Soul, or the sense of Self; and an even greater unfoldment is required for the sustenance of a higher form of consciousness called "Christ Consciousness" or "Cosmic Consciousness." This is, however, related to organic development.

The evolution of Darwinism refers to the form aspect of life and need not be considered further in this paper except to say that what Darwinism refer to as evolution might simply be a case of adaptation or genetic mutation.

Above we mentioned "soul-essence" and "soul-expression." The soul's inner essence is God-essence. It has all the powers, virtues, potentialities of God inherent within it. All of God's attributes are encoded within the fundamental nature of the soul, just as the human blue-print is encoded in the DNA of every cell of the physical body. Though the soul's inner nature is divine, its expression or personality is ever-evolving. While incarnated in physical form the soul has a dual task of removing the stains accumulated upon its personality, and of awakening its inner divine being that its expression would reflect the perfection of its essence.

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS
When we speak of religious beliefs we mean its theological tenets. Christianity and Islam share common ideas and beliefs having their roots in a common source--Judaism. This religion in turn derived many of its doctrines and beliefs from the Persians, Egyptians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, and the Sumerians. Perhaps it would be true to say that almost every religion is syncretic, though they may try very hard to cover this up.
Eastern religions such as Buddhism and Taoism are more mystical in nature and differ greatly from the Semitic religions in many basic principles; Hinduism comprising of many philosophical schools of thought, embraces various theological ideas. Some schools of Buddhism teaches that there is no permanent entity called the soul; that what is thought to be the soul is simply a collection of karmic tendencies transmittable from one incarnation to another. Their extreme views are nilhilistic in nature; however, it is doubtful whether this was implied in the teachings of the Buddha. For instance, if there is no Self, then there is also no Gautama Buddha in existence; and yet, prayers are still being directed by the faithful to this exalted being. Fundamentally, although these religions have diverse concepts regarding the soul they all point or refer to the One where all sentient beings originate. All have their own particular name or names for this Source, and all have their personal ideas regarding this Divine Essence.

Theological precepts are often tainted with the frailties of the human ego and intellect and thus offer a poor basis for the study of true religion and its revelations concerning the soul. Nevertheless, we will strive to present its beliefs with as little bias on our part as possible. This section will be brief, for to do justice to the subject would require many pages and go beyond the scope of this work.

In Christian theology it is believed that the soul prior to birth is devoid of any individuality or personality. It is only when God breathes through the nostrils of man that the soul acquires self-consciousness, and is a "living" being--and this condition of being alive is believed to remain with the soul after death. In the Book of Genesis it is recorded that,

"God made man out of the dust of the earth, breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and made man a living soul." (Gen 2:7)

The phrase "living soul" is equated to the state of being self-conscious. According to this notion unless there is an awareness of the existence of an ego, or a self, a person or being does not truly have a soul. Such a creature is "soulless." A person may be alive imbued with the soul-essence, the life-force, and yet remain soulless, in the sense that it is not self-aware. Some states of insanity may represent beings who are "soulless." While the living soul is associated with the awareness of the ego, immortality is associated with the awareness of the superego, the Higher Self. This idea, though, falls in the province of metaphysical thought.

Basically, theology consider the soul to be a substance implanted in man. It is believed to be an entity divinely created and bestowed upon man when man takes his first breath. Christian theology formulated the idea that man is a divine creation, the highest of all beings, and that the whole universe was created for man alone in support of his existence.

In Christianity the terms "lost souls" or "degraded souls" are often expressed. The moral quality of a person's life is believed to be able to affect the soul. However, from the metaphysical point of view soul-essence is immaculate, perfect, immutable and divine. What may be affected is not its essence but its conscious expression. The consciousness arising from soul essence is that which evolves and strives to reflect the image, archetype or blueprint that God created for man. This is stated emphatically in Genesis; however the statement is often interpreted literally. This blueprint is the image or divine qualities of God. It does not refer to form but to the inner nature of the life-essence.

The Hindus, generally speaking, believe the soul to be an entity that resides in the physical body and is subjected to reincarnation in accord with its karma. The Upanishads says that, "The Supreme Person, of the size of the thumb, dwells forever in the heart of all human beings." Its esoteric wisdom, moreover, tells us that the immaterial man is constituted of various principles each having their own particular function. The highest principle within the microcosm of man is the Atma, or according to others, the Paratman.

In the Bhagavad Gita, the microcosm is represented by Krishna, Arjuna, the carriage, and the horses. Krishna is the Spirit, the highest aspect of man; Arjuna the evolving soul; the carriage the mind; and the horses the senses. Graphically five horses are often represented. They represent the senses of man through which the vital force escapes and runs uncontrolled. In yoga and esoteric practices the senses are subdued so that the vital force may be directed within to awaken the sluggish Arjuna. Krishna is the guide that assists Arjuna in this project.

ANCIENT BELIEFS

As we mentioned before, the belief in the survival of the soul after death goes way back to the earliest development of humankind. Primitive Neanderthal tribes, for instance, would bury food, tools, and weapons along with the corpses of their departed in order to provide them with the bare necessities in the afterlife. This custom still survive in some cultures and is a clear indication that not only is soul survival believed in but that the afterlife as a continuation of the sort of life lived in the physical world is likewise presumed.

Animism was the prevailing belief among prehistoric man. Everything was considered alive and pervaded with a soul-force that even gave inanimate objects a consciousness and an intelligence of some kind. Stars in particular were believed to be souls long dead and living in heaven. To the primitive mind, the sky or firmaments were considered to be heaven, just as hell was thought to lie beneath the earth.

That the soul "resided" and functioned in the physical body, a location was sought for its residence. Some believed the heart to be the organ of the soul, others pointed to the head. Some primitive cultures thought that the blood was the vehicle of the soul--that the blood carried soul-substances to every part of the body. The demon Mephistopheles in a play written by Goethe (1749-1832) declares the blood to be a "curious thing." The belief that the blood is the vehicle of the soul is not without foundation, however. If the soul in this context is considered to be the life-force, prana, chi, or even oxygen, one can only surmise how the primitive mind intuited this scientific fact. Scientifically, it has been noticed that blood-transfusion often causes a temporary change in character in the person receiving the donor's blood. Could it be that blood is impregnated with one's soul-characteristics? As the blood was associated with the soul, many primitive tribes such as the Scythians evolved the custom of drinking the blood of their enemies or victims in order to absorb their courage, strength, power, and abilities. The custom of forming blood-brothers is also based upon the belief in the importance of the blood as related to the soul, and its transcendence over fleshly ties. Members forming blood-brothers would drink the blood of fellow members thus forming a soul-bond overriding the normal flesh-and-blood relationships.

The ancients often depicted the soul as a bird often human headed, perhaps referring to its ability to fly. The Aztecs, ancient Greeks and Egyptians among the many ancient races, for instance, often portrayed the souls of their dead in murals and pottery as a winged bird taking flight from its lifeless corpse. Eagles, hawks, doves, peacocks and phoenixes were often used to represent the soul.

Not only the head, heart, and blood were believed to be the seat of the soul, but likewise the breath. Believing that the breath is associated with the soul and life, the aborigines of Papua New Guinea would breathe through tubes into effigies of their forefathers in order to confer a certain vitality to their departed souls. This is a magical practice based on the law of similarity. Many tribal cultures practiced the placement of obstructions in the nostrils of their dying ones as a last effort to saving their lives. This they believe would effectively prevent the soul from escaping and causing the death of the body.

It is believed among ancient and savage people that the soul being associated with the life force, illnesses or feebleness of the physical body are caused by the escape of the soul from the gross form. In extreme cases the soul force was "captured" by some evil spirit and it was the task of the shaman, the tribal witch-doctor to recapture the soul and restore it to the corporeal body. The ability of the shaman to dissociate his incorporeal aspect from the gross form supposedly facilitated this sort of work.

The Ancients' concept of the soul has evolved throughout the ages, and even now our scientific understanding is constantly in a state of change. Our conceptions regarding the soul is associated with our various notions regarding God. As man evolves so does his awareness of the soul and his Source. Man has formed many ideas regarding the nature of his creator. In this context it can be seen that the phrase, "God creates man, and man creates God" has a basis in truth.

Among the ancient cultures, the Egyptians and Hindus were the most advanced in their understanding of the soul. We in particular refer to their mystics, hierophants, and sages. They regarded man as a microcosm with many aspects, both material and incorporeal, with each aspect having its own function to play in the life and destiny of the soul. Their many teachings live on today in contemporary metaphysico-occult philosophy. The ancient Greek philosophers and sages such as Thales, Plato and Pythagoras derived much of their occult knowledge from these wise priests of the Orient.

SCIENTIFIC VIEWS

Along the scientific vein, certain schools of thought believe the self or ego to be a by-product of a brain function, and yet what gives rise to this function is not known, and only given an educational guess. The section of the brain that "causes" a sense of self is likewise not yet discovered. This concept of the "brain causes consciousness" is fundamentally the viewpoint of the mechanists that sees man as merely a machine. The above concept is flawed, however, because portions of the brain have been known to be destroyed and yet the presence of a sense of self still remained. In the condition known as hydrocephalus, for instance, large sections of the cerebral cortex may be destroyed or missing, being filled instead with cerebro-spinal fluid, and yet individuals suffering from such a condition may lead normal lives without suspecting their blight. They may even have an I.Q. above average.

The mechanists, Freud (1856-1939) among them, claim that our behavioral actions are automatic responses to external stimuli, and that life is a result of the right combination of chemicals derived from food and oxygen. That an animating force exists to vitalize the organism they may concede but this force is looked upon as a physical energy akin to electricity. The mechanistic theory describes how perception takes place through the stimulation of the senses that creates nerve impulses, and how these nerve impulses travel to the sections of the brain related to the senses, and how they form sensations; but the theory does not consider the real perceiver that tries to make sense of the sensations. To mechanists, the perceiver is thought to be one of the functions of the cerebral cortex. In short, the mechanistic concept leaves no room for the existence of the soul. To a mechanist the purported existence of the soul is considered as an absurdity.

If the eminent neuropsychologist Karl Lashley (1890-1958), author of Brain Mechanisms and Intelligence, after years of research could not discover the seat of memory in the brain, how much more difficult would it be to discover the seat of the self or soul--not withstanding Descartes' (1596-1650) assertion that the pineal gland is its locus. This French philosopher and mathematician also declared, "cogito, ergo sum," or "I think, therefore I am" thus implying that the Self arises into existence as a result of thought, or as a function of the mind. Nevertheless, mystics have proved to themselves the possibility of transcending thoughts and yet remaining in existence, and possessing an exalted sense of Self, unified with the Cosmos. The mystic's standpoint is supported by Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980), French philosopher and writer. To Sartre, existence does not depend on the functions of the mind, that a being does not exist simply because it thinks. According to Sartre, existence precedes the mind--or thinking.

Rene Descartes' statement is therefore erroneous, or perhaps our interpretation of his statement is wrong. "I think, because I am" would be closer to the truth. In spite of this, Descartes was somewhat accurate in believing that the pineal gland plays an important role in man's occult physiology as we shall see later when we discuss the metaphysical purview.

Mainstream science may disavow the existence of the soul on the pretext of its immateriality, undetected by their instruments; and yet, matter in its actual state in similarly immaterial. This was the proposition of Leibniz (1646-1716), the German philosopher, who considered matter as a manifestation of Mind--"a stupid variety of mind." To explain this graphically, for instance, what we call concrete matter is actually made up of moving molecules. Molecules in turn are made up of whirling atoms, and these are composed of even smaller particles. Should these sub-atomic particles be magnified "nothing" would be found. Matter, is therefore, made up of "emptiness." We may call this void "energy," "mind," or "spirit," but whatever we call it, the fact remains that matter is actually as insubstantial as the soul. If the reality of one is accepted why not the other? The many particles composing matter are filled with this "nothing," or space. Another curious fact is that if we were to remove the space inherent within a human body, for instance, and all the "particles" united, the total compaction would result in a piece of matter no larger than a mite of dust. Leibniz's theory is also paralleled by the thoughts of Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), the American Trancendentalist. According to Emerson matter is "a phenomenon, not a substance." He also considered the material world to be,

"a divine dream, from which we may presently awake to the glories and certainties of day."

Science informs us that nothing is destroyed. That matter is just energy possessing a certain structure and magnetic-field. It is acknowledged that everything in existence is made up of energy. Now as the existence of consciousness and a sense of self are undeniable, they should be thought of as indestructible as well, for Science has already implied the idea in its equations. So why then does Science not accept the possible existence of disembodied consciousness--the soul?--because it cannot be perceived? Quiet an absurdity, really--even while embodied the Self cannot be seen. Can you see your Self?

From whence does the sense of self-identity come? It seems that mainstream science is still a long way in finding this one out. However, new paradigms are being formulated by open-minded scientists who are now considering the world-view of eastern mystics in conjunction with the new developments and discoveries in the field of physics and psychology. The theories of quantum physics and transpersonal psychology are closing the gap between essential religion and conventional science. Regarding the mystery of the Self in relation to the brain we are reminded of the words of the researcher and scientist George Buletza who said in the Rosicrucian Digest (Sept. 1983) that,

"Rather than the brain producing Self, it is the other way around. The brain is a product of Self, of Being ever striving to be. The brain is the incredibly fine instrument created by Self in the process of expressing its own nature . . ."

It has been observed in many laboratory experiments all over the world that human consciousness reveals an ability to extend itself beyond the boundaries of the brain and body, that somehow it may perceive or influence events at distant places. Such mental activities suggests to some scientific observers that consciousness may exist independent of the corporeal form.

Many branches of science such as physics, psychology, astrophysics, and biology, are investigating the soul, and each has their own particular methods of inquiry. Perhaps the most important branch of science that has been developed in recent times, relatively speaking, is parapsychology.

Parapsychology

Parapsychology is that branch of science that studies the nature of psychic or paranormal phenomena. Its scope of investigation covers a wide range of subjects: for instance, ESP, hauntings, poltergeist activity, Near-Death Experience, Out-of-the-Body Experience, UFOs, Strange Creatures, Weird Phenomena, etc. There are now many institutes investigating, studying, and teaching this branch of science. The word "parapsychologist" is often misunderstood. Many people seem to think that being a parapsychologist is synonymous to being psychic. This is erroneous. A psychic may not be a parapsychologist, and vice versa. A psychic is someone who perceives impressions through higher senses not ordinarily registered by the physical senses. Psychics may not generally understand the impressions that they register, and may simply believe and be fooled by illusions and appearances. A parapsychologist seeks to understand unusual phenomena through scientific analysis, and by using empirical methods with the aid of carefully devised instruments. A mystically inclined metaphysician, on the other-hand, basically strives to understand phenomena with the aid of his intellect, intuition, and other higher faculties. The parapsychologist's basic methods are three-dimensional, the psychic's four-dimensional, and the mystic-metaphysician's, five-dimensional, or even higher.

To illustrate the difference between a paranormal and a metaphysician's understanding of phenomena, we will just illustrate one out of many. As an example, supposing a psychic were to receive impressions of an impending disaster, he would consider it to be truth and proclaim it to others. He would make all sorts of predictions anent the impressions that was registered in his mind. He would consider it as a revelation of God.

The metaphysician on the other hand, knowing Cosmic and natural laws, understands the impressions received to possibly be thought-forms-mind creations of fearful beings. Man radiates thoughts, and these thoughts, perhaps without a basis of truth, are received by psychics. The unfortunate thing in all of this is that thoughts are creative. What we habitually think about with intense emotion have a tendency to materialize. So dire predictions often come true; however it does not have to be. We have to learn to eliminate fear. When psychics make predictions they are instilling and intensifying fear among the masses. Now this is a vicious cycle. When people are made fearful by psychics they begin to imagine more catastrophic horrors and these thoughts radiate out again to susceptible psychics who repeat the whole procedure over again. The momentum eventually grows until it manifests physically.

However, let us not digress too far and return to our subject: Parapsychology has established various avenues of research for determining the reality of the soul and the survival of personal consciousness. Although the results of their research are inconclusive by the standards of mainstream science, parapsychologists have been successful in acquiring evidence and vital knowledge that when analyzed seemingly validates the age-old belief in the existence of the soul and its survival of bodily death. Nevertheless, parapsychologists have formulated various theories as to their findings, not all of which aligns with the traditional view of the soul. It is also important to note that the term "soul" is rarely used in mainstream science or parapsychology. The terms "mind," "consciousness," and "personality" are often used instead.

"They will ask thee concerning the Spirit. Say: The Spirit is by command of my Lord, and of knowledge ye have been vouchsafed but little" (Koran Al Israa 17:85)

Introduction
At present we are living in a very complex era that humankind's intelligentsia call the "Space Age," the "Computer Age," the "Atomic Age," the "Information Age," and the "Technological Age." These are descriptive culminating "Ages" of the Piscean period that will soon give way to other developments. In time, we will hear terms or phrases such as, the "Ascension Age," the "Quantum Age," the "Hyper-Space Age," and the "Photon Age." All of these latter Ages allude and refer to the characteristical nature of the forces that will soon interact, interface and integrate with humanity in the coming Aquarian Age causing a transmutation within the psychosomatic system of man at cellular and atomic levels. The two-helix DNA structure comprising our genes would split and multiply into twelve strands, in accord with the same law that divides a cell. Certain atoms within the pineal gland would simultaneously become active, as would certain sections of the brain. The synapses and dendrites of the neurons of the brain would form new connections all over the grey matter linking both the right and left hemispheres, and both the cerebellum and the cerebrum. Chakras beyond the major seven would likewise be stimulated and anchored into man's lower force-field. Additionally, the various layers of the chakric-system and their many petals or attributes would unfold giving man untold abilities. It is said that the attainment of enlightenment is not merely a psychological event, it is also a chemical and electrical one. It is in fact an alchemical affair. In short, in the Aquarian Age man will be spiritually mutated, and made anew to a greater perfection-but only if man is prepared and works to facilitate this. This transmutation is the evolutionary quantum leap that awaits humanity.

With all of the awe-inspiring metaphysical developments that would occur, there are still simple truths that would need to be addressed to enlighten the layman, such as the existence of the soul, which is the topic of this paper. There are lots of seekers and potential seekers of a higher reality that need to be shown the way. It is the writer's hope that this paper would fill the void in people's mind regarding the hidden side of their existence, and hopefully, cause then to fathom further in the marvelous mysteries of the universe.

The Search for the Soul

The scientific search for the soul began ever since the dawn of spiritualism that had its onset in the early decades of the 19th century when the Fox sisters claimed communications with the spirit world. Still, in spite of all the "marvelous" high-tech achievements of man in these latter days of the Piscean Age, the question of the existence of the soul and its survival of physical death remains unanswered successfully by conventional science. The soul's existence has not been academically and scientifically "proven" in the laboratory to the satisfaction of scholars of all branches of learning; on the other hand, however, the non-existence of the soul has not been proved either. To our knowledge, the devices that would monitor, measure, and scan frequencies beyond the known energy-spectrum remains to be invented ere the concrete proof of the existence of the soul required by Science may be attained. The many inventions of Tesla and Edison revealed that they were pioneers working on this problem.

Throughout the centuries philosophers have been speculating upon the existence of the soul and its survival of the body; of its nature and relationship to the physical form; of its origin and destiny; and also of its possible glorified nature, or its state of immortality. However, intellectual and analytical reasoning have failed to provide any substantial evidence of an independent entity existing apart from the physical body. The serious search for the soul by our world philosophers and thinkers through a priori, or reason alone seems to have waned in the twentieth century. Perhaps it is realized that the intellect has its limitations in grasping, comprehending, and truly knowing abstract and metaphysical matters, or it could also be the realization that any concept that could be thought of has already been conceptualized in the past--that any novel ideas would merely be variations of former metaphysical speculations and of the wide variety of theories, and would not make man any more wiser. This would once again substantiate the eternal truth that there is nothing new beneath the sun. Still, there are always die-hards.

The physical senses, the mortal mind, and the intellect are poor faculties when it comes to determining the nature of Reality or the Absolute. What is relative may be known intellectually and experienced objectively; relative absolutism may be speculated upon though without knowing whether one's conclusions are of the absolute truth in the absence of scientific proof, even if they be rational and logical; examples of this is the "Unified theory" of Einstein and the "Idealism" of Kant. Absolute absolutism is simply indescribable and ineffable. It transcends the intellect, and anything said about it in conventional terms is simply misleading. Even our description "indescribable and ineffable" may be inappropriate. From the standpoint of the Absolute all that we know of whether through our senses or intellect are perhaps erroneous and illusory.

In the Qabala, the esoteric oral tradition of the Hebrews/Jews, the Absolute is called "Ain Sof." It is the hidden God, the Source of all not mentioned in the exoteric scriptures. Jehovah, the god of Moses, with his human characteristics, is merely a reflection of the supreme god found in the pantheons of the coexisting cultures of the time. The existence and nature of Ain Sof was not publicized because the Initiates knew that the mental capacity and spiritual development of the masses had not reached the required level whereby such revelations could be intuitively grasped and safely applied. This state of affairs still exist nowadays but with a twist. Now the mental development of man has far outpaced his spiritual side. Whenever abstract matters are discussed, the human mind tend to concretize and anthropomorphize that which cannot be objectified or understood intellectually; and with man's failure of apprehending abstract matters he comes to the conclusion of their non-existence. Man, therefore, becomes ignorant of his ignorance.

Though the above ideas concerning Reality may appear to be distinct, in actuality, they are interrelated and are connected with one's mode of apperception and intuitive insight. Superficially, they are our different ideas or understanding of Absolute Reality. We will not speculate further upon this, for the more we delve intellectually, the further we stray from the truth. Reality may only be known and experienced mystically.

How is the soul related to the above concepts? Is the soul merely another invention of the mind, or can it be known and experienced in a physical and concrete manner, or any way that transcends the physical senses and intellect? As the Age of Pisces relied heavily upon analytical thought in order to apprehend "truth," so the Aquarian Age will rely most emphatically upon altered states of consciousness, intuition and other higher faculties in order to perceive, experience and comprehend abstract realities. Whether the intuition or a higher faculty proves the existence of the soul will depend entirely upon the empirical knowledge acquired by each individual in an absolute state of awareness. That science would finally prove the existence of the soul, or certain aspects of it at some future date we have no doubt, but the answer to such a question may be acquired here and now through mystical means. In the coming Age there will be a shift of emphasis from speculative metaphysics to applied metaphysics or practical mysticism. Though this is already occurring with the varied activities of the proponents and exponents of occultism and metaphysics in the last few decades, this condition will intensify further in the next millenium. The true knowledge of the soul would have to come from the soul itself. It cannot be otherwise. Science may only discover aspects of it.

When Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity he ushered man onto the road of civilization and into the path of spiritual inquiry. Fire relieved prehistoric man of many fears. With the discovery of fire, man could for once in his life relax in the comfort of his cave without the fear of being attacked by unexpected predators. In his new-found ease man commenced to think and introspect. His higher mind began to awaken and he started off pondering upon the existence of invisible realms and a "self" independent of the material form. This cogitation was triggered by certain experiences that he had such as dreams, psychological impressions, and unexplainable instinctive knowledge. In dreams he felt that something within him goes forth out of the body to continue the activities of the day. This was the birth of the belief in the existence of the soul. The belief and search for an incorporeal principle of human life, therefore, goes way back beyond recorded history and is to be found in all cultures in one form or another. So far, only the spiritual cream of society--the mystics and saints--have solved the problem of the existence of the soul through experimentation in the laboratory of the Spirit.

Throughout the ages mystics, sages, and prophets have impressed upon us the importance of knowing the immaterial entity that animates and directs the body. Some consider this entity to be the mind, the self, the soul, the life-force, the spirit, the ego, the personality, the psyche, the Spark of God, etc. They declare that it is only through knowing this intangible reality of man is it possible to know one's Source and one's purpose of being. The instinctive drive that motivates and impels man to search for the soul stems from the imponderable soul-factor itself. The importance of the search is sensed by the mind but the exact reason is not known explicitly. This is what Jung called the religious instinct. Moreover, this "instinct" is not to be found in man alone, but also in the other primates and the cetaceans. Another curious fact is that the higher animals exhibit many so-called human qualities such as guilt shame, and pride. If these feelings are associated with the soul, then soul, or at least soul-essence may be said to indwell in animals also. However, man is considered the only being that wonders about the soul, death, the after-life, etc. In The Meaning of Immortality in Human Experience, William Ernest Hocking (1873-1966), the American philosopher says that,

"Man is the only animal that contemplates death, and also the only animal that shows any sign of doubt of its finality."

Does the soul really exist? And what is the value of identifying the soul? Without the search and discovery of the "soul" along with the knowledge of its purpose of existence through whatever means possible, there would always be a feeling of dissatisfaction and uneasiness in the bosom of man. Without the undeniable proof of the survival of individual identity life would appear to be a series of meaningless events and experiences. If the soul does not exist and everything ends at the death of the human form then all the struggles and all the strivings in life serves no purpose. Why bother with the harsh teachings of life if all will end up in total annihilation with not a single iota of the immaterial man surviving the physical form? Suicide would be a convenient escape; and yet, somehow, we sense that suicide somehow violates cosmic rules--rules laid down by whom or what?

On the other side of the coin, man's inflated ego has caused him to believe that he is the only creature on earth with a soul. His "superior intelligence" is proof of it. Man believes that no other creature possesses faculties such as imagination, reason, and the will as he has--the vital faculties needed to control and direct the environment. This reasoning gave man a sense of supremacy and uniqueness; and also the sense of being the chosen one of God, for was he not made "in the image of God"? This is basically an egocentric point of view, one that gives rise to the exploitation, abuse, manipulation and ultimate destruction of Nature. Associated with this belief is the presupposition that intelligent life only exists on earth, and that Man is representative of it. Man is so blinded by the ego that he does not realize that life adapts itself to whatever conditions it finds itself. The chemical and environmental necessities for sentient life here on this planet may not be the requirements for the manifestation of life on another planet. Life may subsist on other or unknown elements. For instance, carbon being the basis of life on this planet may not be the basis of life on other planets. Other planets may make use of silicon, silica, or other materials instead. That which gives life is not any of the known gases, but the universal life-force called prana. Aside from this, from the metaphysical point of view, life does not solely exist in the spectrum of energies that we objectively perceive, but exists even beyond that. So, as an example, a planet such as Venus or Pluto may be host to intelligent beings residing in the higher dimensions of the planet without being detected by the crude telescopes or instruments that we call technologically advanced, such as the Hubble Space Telescope.

Vital questions that might be addressed are whether animals possess souls, or is this a unique gift to man alone; is soul a substance or a function; and that if man evolved self-identity out of the functions of the life-force, at what point of his evolution did he acquire it; and should soul be considered an entity, at what point in the fetal development does it ensoul the form, or does it enter when the baby takes in its first breath? Such questions may only be answered should we possess a true knowledge of the metaphysical part of life. A study and understanding of all of the seemingly intangible aspects of nature such as the microcosmic constituents and functions of man--the etheric elements supporting organic life, the divine spiritual force that sustains the microcosmic structure, the three-fold Soul, etc., assists greatly in answering profound questions.

Man possesses subconscious knowledge of his soul, but for some reason he blocks this out consciously by "pretending" to be ignorant. He hypnotizes himself into disbelieving immaterial realities for this is the line of least resistance to him. Actually it is much easier to remember than to forget. The proof that the soul, the spiritual essence of man exists is that we are searching for it! It is the mystery of the soul searching for itself.

We realize that this topic is controversial in nature, and as being related to religion, it acquires a certain sensitivity among religious fundamentalists. However, this emotional sensitivity should be shelved aside in the rationalistic study of the soul; for one must be objective, open-minded, sensible, tolerant, and circumspect in the acquisition of beneficial knowledge. Unrestrained emotionalism is a hurdle towards the acquisition of truth. Hopefully this paper would offer the reader a greater insight into the mystery of the soul and our intense search for it. This is a complex subject and it would not be possible to wholly satisfy the intellect. Its purpose is no more than to act as a stimulus for the mystical consciousness of the one perusing its pages. Whenever we use the word "soul' we are generalizing and mean the whole immaterial part of man, unless otherwise specified or implied.

DEFINITION

The Webster's Dictionary defines soul as "the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life," and also as the "spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe." It also defines the soul as the "person's total self."

Religion and philosophy regards soul as the immaterial aspect or essence of the microcosmic man that confers a sense of self and being--a sense of being an independent entity, quite apart from the external environment. Basically, religious philosophical thought believe the soul to be eternal in essence. Neoplatonism is one of the school of thought that propounds this tenet. The theologian and prelate St. Augustine likewise, believed in the immortality of the soul, as did Cicero, the Roman orator. The soul is often thought to be synonymous with the mind or consciousness. Theology builds up upon the above definitions by considering the soul to be divine in nature and capable of surviving the dissolution of the physical form. In our modern times the belief in soul survival is called Survivalism. Certain schools of metaphysics further assert that the soul, or spirit to be a spark or emanation of the Source of all and that it is an evolving aspect of the microcosm working towards apotheosis or deification.

Perhaps it would be superfluous to say that the soul-concept is subjective. Whether it exists is beside the point: the Self, or soul as an essence has never been perceived objectively by anyone. What are seen as phantoms or ethereal forms by psychics or the average person during certain psychological states are possibly the sheaths enshrouding the spiritual essence. If we have a soul, then what are we? What is "it" that is supposed to possess a soul or Self? Can a Self possess a Self? Is the soul to be differentiated from the Self? Unless we recognize that there are various aspects to the immaterial man we would not begin to understand him. It is in this respect that Occultism, Mysticism, the Ancient Wisdom and Metaphysics in general, are far in advance of the knowledge possessed by exoteric Religion, Philosophy, and Science.

The soul is not wholly definable. We may generalize and say that the soul is the immaterial aspect of man; and yet this non-substantial quality of man is composed of various components, not all of which may be immediately apprehensible by the various faculties of the mind. Also, our media of information conveyance such as words, signs, and symbols are incapable of transmitting the whole truth as it is. The divine aspect of the immaterial man cannot be expressed through language, nor can they be formulated into ideas. A faculty of a lower aspect of the microcosm is incapable of knowing a higher aspect in its entirety. In order for a higher aspect of the microcosm to be known it is necessary to exercise the faculties associated with it. For instance the cliché "it takes a thief to catch a thief" describes and supports our proposition exactly. No one knows a thief better than another thief. Likewise, in order to know something we must be that something or function at its level. This metaphysical principle has a very wide application, and many unusual occult phenomena may be produced from its use.

Although the academic definition of the soul has been given above, there is no standard agreement or understanding as to the terms "soul" and "spirit" and also of the other spiritual concepts taught in the many religions, sects and cults. This lack of standardization causes confusion and often result in senseless heated debates and even physical conflicts. Some systems of metaphysics consider the above terms as archaic and specific words denoting the various aspects of the soul or spirit are utilized instead. Should religion update its terminology and doctrines in accord with the modern findings of science and the pure spiritual teachings of mysticism it would be more aligned with the plan of God and attract more followers into its fold; as it is, true religion appears to be withering in the temples of God. This statement may be contradicted, however, those that argue against it may not understand what true religion is.

The many attributes of the soul are generally known to be the personality, the conscience, the emotional feelings, the mental faculties, the Ego, the memory, the various levels of consciousness, and the will. Generally speaking, philosophy, religion, and metaphysics are all in agreement as to this.

Protein - Its Place In Your Weight Loss Program

by: Kay Blackiston

Any food that we take into our bodies is composed of macronutrients, micronutrients and water. The macronutrients (macro = large) are protein, fat and carbohydrates; the micronutrients (micro = small) are vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Macronutrients provide the calories that provide energy for life; micronutrients have no calories but are an essential part of our diet. Without macronutrients we would starve to death, without micronutrients we would die from health deterioration.

So, what exactly is protein?

Technically speaking proteins are any of a large group of nitrogenous (containing nitrogen) compounds of high molecular weight that are essential constituents of all living organisms. They consist of 22 biological compounds called amino acids. They provide the building materials for the basic cell structure of the heart, brain, blood, nails, hair, internal organs and skin – in fact for every living cell in our body. You would recognise proteins better if they were defined as red meat, fish, poultry, dairy products, eggs and soy.

To understand the importance of protein as an aid for weight loss we also have to briefly define what carbohydrates and fats are: carbohydrates are basically sugars, usually referred to as either simple or complex. Simple or refined carbohydrates are the ones like sugar, honey, cakes, biscuits and white bread. Complex carbohydrates are whole grain breads and cereals, brown rice, some vegetables, beans and legumes, and certain fruits. Fats are technically triglycerides and are usually divided into two groups; saturated and non-saturated. Saturated fats are usually solid at room temperature and include fats found in meat, dairy products, ice cream, milk and tropical oils. Unsaturated fats are usually liquid at room temperature and come in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated forms. Monounsaturated include oils from some nuts, olives and avocadoes. Polyunsaturated include oils from soybean, flax, sunflower, safflower as well as those fats that have been chemically transformed to make them solid like margarine. But the most important thing to consider is what effect do proteins, carbohydrates and fats have on your body? Or more specifically what effect do they have on the production of insulin in your body. Insulin is essential to life, some of its many functions are to control the storage of fat, control appetite, regulate the retention of water in the kidneys and the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver and it also acts as a growth hormone.

Eating fat has little effect on your insulin levels, and it actually decreases your appetite. Also eating the right kind of fats can rebalance hormones and improve the way you look and feel.

When you eat carbohydrates your body produces digestive enzymes that break down the chemical bonds between the sugar molecules. These molecules stimulate the production of metabolic hormones including insulin and this is where the problems can start. If we have a diet too high in carbohydrates, particularly refined carbohydrates, the high levels of glucose cause high levels of insulin to be produced. This can cause insulin resistance, where the body’s cells become non-responsive to the insulin so the pancreas keeps producing more and more. It also means the body fails to burn the glucose as energy and instead it is stored as fat! If this happens constantly the build up of glucose in the blood can cause Type II diabetes. The high level of insulin also tells a gland in the brain, the hypothalamus, to send out hunger signals. So you could have just eaten a meal and you would still feel hungry, there will be nothing that satisfies that hunger.

Eating protein produces a moderate amount of insulin but also produces the hormone glucagon. This hormone stimulates the body to get rid of fat by burning it for energy; it also decreases the body’s production of cholesterol and stimulates the kidney to release excess salt and fluid. It also maintains your blood sugar level counteracting the effect of insulin, which lowers the blood sugar levels.

So, what should we be eating? Recent studies recommend 100g of protein for women and 150g of protein for men. An excellent way of getting the majority of your protein intake is by using a meal replacement product with extra protein powder if necessary. This takes all the guess work out of two thirds of your protein intake and when combined with a third meal of low fat protein (e.g. chicken or turkey) and low glycaemic vegetables gives the ideal diet to lose weight, gain energy, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and possibly reverse Type II diabetes.

Ten Important Things to Know Before You Join a Weight Loss Program

by: A.M.Sall

1. What is my BMI and how do I calculate it?

BMI means Body Mass Index. Healthy weight is defined as a BMI equal to or greater than 19 and less than 25 among all people aged 20 or over.

To determine body mass index, divide weight in kilograms (2.2 lbs.=1 kg) by height in meters squared (39.4 ins.=1m).

For example, if you are 1.75 M tall and weigh 80 kg. , your BMI will be = 80/1.75X1.75 = 26.122, slightly overweight ("obesity" is ofen defined as a BMI equal to or greater than 30, which approximates to 30 pounds of excess weight.)

2. What are carbs, proteins, fats?

Carbohydrates provide your body with its basic fuel, very much like a car engine and gasoline. Glucose goes directly into the cells, which convert it into the energy they need.

There are two types of carbohydrates:

Simple carbohydrates (also called "sugars" on food package labels): glucose etc.

Complex carbohydrates ("starches"), made up of chains of glucose molecules, which is simply a way plants store glucose.

Starches can be found in great quantities in most grains (wheat, corn, oats, rice) and things like potatoes and plantains.

Your digestive system breaks a starch back down into its component glucose molecules so that the glucose can enter your bloodstream.

Carbohydrates provide cells with energy, proteins provide cells with the building material they need to grow and maintain their structure.

Protein can be found in both animal and vegetable foods. Most animal sources (meat, milk, eggs) provide "complete protein": they contain all of the essential amino acids.

Fats are also an important part of our diet. Many foods contain fat in different amounts. High-fat foods include dairy products like butter and cream as well as mayonnaise and oils.

There are two kinds of fats: saturated and unsaturated.

Fat is necessary because: the only way to get certain fat-soluble vitamins is to eat fat, your body has no way to make certain essential fats, so you must get them in your food.

Another reason is that fat is a good source of energy, in fact it contains twice as many calories per gram as do carbohydrates or proteins. Your body can burn fat as fuel when necessary

3. What else does my body need?

Mainly vitamins and minerals. These can be found in various foods, fruits, etc..It seems the "Standard Western Diet" is deficient in vitamins and minerals. This has led to the creation of vitamin and mineral supplements.

4. What are the dangers of being overweight (too fat)?

When it gets to a certain level, overweight becomes "obesity", which has been described as "a serious, chronic disease that is known to reduce life span, increase disability and lead to many serious illnesses including diabetes, heart disease and stroke, cancer, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, gall bladder disease, gout."

5. What exactly is Atkins diet?

Dr. Atkins diet, first introduced in 1972, is strictly focused on limiting carbohydrate consumption.

That is why it is called a low-carb, high-protein diet or sometimes simply a low-carb diet, together with other diets such as South Beach Diet, Power Protein Diet etc...

by: Nicholas Webb

Remember there’s more to you than meets the eye. You’ve got personality, brains, feelings… in short, all those things that make you, YOU. So why diet? After all, you’re more than just a body, and things that really matter can’t be measured on a scale.

That said, there are some very good sound reasons for dieting. After all, dieting is not just for weight loss or weight gain. No, the true meaning of ‘diet’ is in choosing foods and setting eating habits that will keep you healthy, strong, and feeling your best. It takes planning and dedication. It means setting goals and following through. But it doesn’t have to be a chore. No, with the right tools it can even be fun … especially when you start to see the results that you’re looking for!

Before, choosing a diet, there are five extremely simple Steps, which if you really apply you will probably end up losing weight without even trying! Doesn’t that sound interesting. Really No kidding … try the following:

Step 1) Always sit down when you eat, preferable at a table. Don’t eat while standing, walking, driving or talking on the phone.

Step 2) Don’t read or watch television while you eat.

Step 3) Eat only when your stomach is empty. At least 3 to 4 hours from your last meal.

Step 4) Don’t take a bite until you’ve already swallowed the previous bite. Obvious? Try observing people and you’ll see them stuffing their mouths, which are still full. They probably talk at the same time! So, bite, chew, swallow, bite, chew, swallow.

Step 5) Don’t eat when you’re not hungry. No, I’m being serious and I know that this sounds stupid. For example when at home wait 5 minutes before taking second helpings. If you wait, you’ll probably find that you’re no longer hungry, whereas if you don’t wait you could probably eat thirds! Remember … Wait five minutes before taking more.

A good diet doesn’t end when you finally reach your target goal. Maintaining good nutrition, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle is a continuing process. Only this will give you the energy to face the challenges of your busy day, boost your self-image, and make you look and feel better.

And there’s no feeling like the satisfaction when you achieve your goals by sticking to a sensible, healthy, diet plan.

Besides, where would we be without food? Changing your diet to prevent or reverse heart disease, reduce your blood pressure, or to get the better of your diabetes and, naturally to reach your desired weight, is not just a matter of cutting out butter and eggs and counting the amount of fat grams you eat each day. For instance, most Americans get close to 40% of their calories from fat! This is twice the recommended amount if you already suffer from heart disease.

There are many misconceptions and confusion concerning fat these days, some seem to make sense, others are just plain dumb! Remember, concerning fat, several things are now known for sure. It is known that most of us eat too much fat and that obesity is a major health concern, increasing the risk for heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, back pain and cancer. It is also known that saturated fat, more than anything else, is responsible for increasing our cholesterol levels.

I know it’s weird, but it’s been found, ironically, that when people focus exclusively on eliminating cholesterol from their daily diet they may unknowingly move on to a diet high in saturated fats! Some people decide to become vegetarian, leaving out meat and eggs, but the salad dressings, nuts and peanut butter, for instance, do more damage than a lean steak! Message: be careful what you eat, you may be surprised.

The 7 Points You Must Check Before You Go For Any Weight Loss Program

by: Rajesh Shetty

Warning: Don't go for any weight loss or diet plan before reading this report.

Yes,you must be aware of the following 7 points before adopting a diet plan.

1) Your weight loss program must remove toxins from your body.

Do you know these facts?

FACT #1:90% of the toxins in your body are expelled from your body through breath. But an average person uses only 30% of his/her lung capacity!

FACT #2:8% of the toxins are removed from the excretory organs. But 80% of the population has clogged colons resulting in pounds of impacted waste.

FACT #3:2% of the toxins are removed through the skin, nose, ears etc.

So,where do all the toxins that are not expelled through the breath and excretory organs go? Simple, they get stored in your body.

No matter how much clean you think your body is....it has a storage of toxins in one form or the other due to the above factors.

And,toxins are the No.1 cause of fat deposition. In fact,it's toxin which makes fat removal so difficult to achieve.

But, most of the fat supplement manufacturers and diet experts don't seem to know anything about this vital fact! or atleast they are pretending not to know.

Remember. No toxin removal-No fat removal. Period.

2) You must Lose Fat not water

Most of the diet programs are based on low calorie diets. This kind of food deprevation signals your body to shed water stored in and around the cells.Remember, your body is 70% water.

Losing this water around the cells causes your body to instantly lose some weight making you think that the weight loss program is a success.

Whereas, this water weight comes back as easily as it was lost.

Conclusion? Be 100% sure if the weight loss program you are about to select makes your body lose just water or real fat.

3) The weight loss program must optimize the functioning of the fat burning organs in your body.

Most of the products available in the market today don't fulfill this criterion.

There are appetite suppressants that only suppress the appetite........which is very dangerous, and fat blockers, which only block the fat you eat.

The popular diet programs go one step ahead by limiting the type and amount of food you eat.

This results in malnutrition of the various fat burning organs of the body, depriving them of nutrients and resulting in their malfunctioning and untimely failure.

Most of the weight loss programs can never improve the functioning of the organs responsible for natural and effortless weight loss over a long period of time.

Hence, look for info about whether your weight loss program really has the necessary nutrients required and a strategy to keep these fat burning organs in good shape.

4) The weight loss programs must be free of harmful chemicals and drugs without side effects.

Most of the weight loss supplements have one or the other side effects because they are made from untested chemicals and drugs like ephedra, which are harmful to your body.

5) Must have a Scientific basis-tried and tested over a long period of time .

99% of all the weight loss programs available in the market have no scientific basis. They have not been tested and proven over a long period of time.

In fact, most products use you as a guinea pig for testing their products!

6) Your weight loss program must increase your metabolism naturally.

Without increasing metabolism in a natural way, fat burning is impossible.

7) No drastic reduction in food intake should be necessary.

It is a wrong notion propagated by the diet industry that the less calories in-more is the weight loss. This is a great lie and harms the body. Yo-yo dieting is the result of this approach.

In fact, drastic reduction in calorie intake deprives vital nutrients to the very organs that are responsible for metabolism and fat burning resulting in their failure to burn fat.

Hence, watch out for very low calorie diets!

99% of diet programs in the market today will definitely fail this test and the reason for it? They are Junk!.

Yes,the diet industry is full of lies and false claims regarding weight loss. The real fact is..majority..yes..majority don't know the real reason for fat accumulation and what really works.

The Best Free Weight Loss Program For Natural Weight Loss

by: Janice Elizabeth Small

The best things in life are free and that is truly the case when it comes to planning your weight loss program.

Whatever you do, don't waste your money on diet patches, pills and potions - they may harm you and they will certainly harm your wallet. Stand well clear of anything which is supposed to help you lose weight that hasn't been prescribed by your doctor.

After all you already own everything you need to lose weight. You don't need the latest diet program. You don't need more fitness equipment gathering dust in a corner. You don't need a gym membership. You don't need diet foods. How much have you paid in the past for all the diet books and paraphernalia that were meant to help you but had no lasting effect on your weight?

To start a successful natural weight loss program you just need the following basic plan:-

1. Eat good healthy home cooked food

Healthy in this case means low in fat, sugar and salt and with plenty of fruit and vegetables, natural whole grains and lean proteins. There are a ton of fantastic healthy and delicious recipes out there that you can use. You'll find them on the internet, in your own cookbooks or you can borrow recipe books from the library. Select the best meals you can and create a weekly meal plan. Enjoy your food more on your weight loss program than ever before! Plan your meals on a weekly basis and keep to it. Your shopping list becomes your best ally in your weight loss plan.

Eating out is often the downfall in any weight loss program. If you can't avoid it, and especially if you eat out a lot, choose your restaurants with care and select the healthiest dishes from the menu. You could also ask them to prepare something healthy - most good restaurants would be able to provide plain fish or chicken for you with a salad (dressing on the side!)

2. Don't eat unless you are physically hungry and stop eating as soon as you are satisfied

If you are overweight, you can be sure that you have eaten more food than your body needs in terms of calories. Chances are you've done that both through your choices of food - high in fat and sugar - which bulks up your body without filling you up and also through eating larger portion sizes than you really need of everything.

If you've forgotten what a normal portion is, it's best to think of a meal as being about the size of your two clenched fists. Put that much on your plate to start with and see how it feels to eat that much. About right? Stop there. Too little? Have a spoonful more or fill up on salad or vegetables - you can't do much harm with them!

3. Add as much movement into your day as you can

Most weight loss programs have an exercise element. Great though this is in theory, it's where many people give up. It's just too demoralizing when you go red in the face, sweating and heart pounding after a couple of minutes when you're supposed to do twenty! Twenty minutes! You're lucky if you can do five. Why put yourself through this when you're clearly not ready?

The best way to add more movement into your day is by walking. Walk everywhere! It's free! If you can afford it, get a pedometer and measure how much you're doing each day. Aim for 10,000 steps every day when you're trying to lose weight - it's also great to stay at that level once you reach your target - it will help you stay slim.

If you're not fit, check with your doctor and start with a few hundred steps, adding to your total every day. If you don't have a pedometer, keep a note of your progress by counting the number of minutes you walk and get a rough idea of the distance you've covered (for example, one block and two lamp-posts), gradually increasing both as you get fitter.

You can walk whatever the weather if you have the right clothes and footwear or you can just walk around your home or the shops - it really doesn't matter as long as you move!

Of course there are more things you can do to lose weight, but these three offer the best start to any weight loss plan. There would be far fewer overweight people in the world if everyone followed these simple and natural steps. Weight loss programs make things complicated because they need to differentiate themselves from each other. They are not just going to tell you the obvious - they have to wrap it up in ratios and percentages, points and calories, rules and regulations until you can't live a normal life and follow them.

Free yourself from the latest diet fad and just start by following these steps. Weight loss, though still not as easy as falling off the proverbial log - we know that is just a fantasy - will happen more easily than ever before and in a completely natural way which gives lasting results.

In this age being ignorant is like committing a crime. With so much of knowledge around you, following a trend blindly doesn't confirm the fact that you are intelligent. But the catch here is, GO BY RIGHT KNOWLEDGE. No doubt, internet is flooded with the wrong knowledge and myths that leads you nowhere, but it isn't hard enough to figure out the pearl in the ocean. Every now and then, we see some supplements or pills making tall claims which they down the line do not seem to validate. We will soon establish as we go on reading this article that there is absolutely no substitute for eating healthy and sweating out.

In US, where weight loss has been a part of national consciousness for three decades, several studies have been done to evaluate the effectiveness of various weight loss aids. The major reason why most of these aids escape regulation is because they are branded as "food supplements" to escape the Drugs and Cosmetics Act that regulates the sale of medicine. Here are some findings:-

1) Starch Blockers: One of the most stupid ways to lose weight, they claimed to block the digestion of starch. Not only is the claim unproven but the users have complained of diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pains.

2) Glucomannan: It also failed on the FDA's yardstick. It promised to reduce your appetite by filling up your stomach but there seem to be no evidence to support it. Glucomannan is derived from the root of a japanese plant name konjac.

3) Spirulina: It is a species of blue-green algae containing some essential nutrients and is pretty safe but again, its effectiveness is still questionable.

4) Magnetic Diet Pills: The US federal trade commission has brought legal action against marketers of these pills. These pills contain a fibre that is been considered to act like a fat-magnet which consumes up to five times its weight in dietary fat. Sorry, it failed miserably!

5) Weight Loss Shakes: MAY BE an answer for short-term weight loss but users have gained weight immediately once they stop using these shakes. These shakes are diet drinks powdered formulas and are substituted for meals. Not only this way to lose weight in unhealthy but also short-term.

6) Bulking Agents: These fibre and gum products promises to control appetite be absorbing liquid and swelling in stomach, thus reducing hunger. But the fact is these bulking agents are indigestible. They can be harmful to the body causing obstructions in the intestines, stomach or esophagus.

5 Ways to Cheat without Wrecking your Weight Loss Program

by: Janice Elizabeth Small

Healthy eating day after day can get a bit much when everyone around you is enjoying cheesecake and chips.

You know it's worth it in the long run but sometimes you just want a treat.

Instead of gritting your teeth and feeling deprived when the chocolate cake or pizza calls you name, follow these guidelines to have your cake and eat it too.

1. Budget for it

If you're counting calories, allow 100 - 200 calories from your total daily calorie allowance for treats. Try not to use them everyday and "save up" for a special treat once a week.

2. Need dessert?

If you really want a dessert, balance your indulgence with a light main course. Eat something like a large bowl of vegetable soup or a chicken salad so that you're not too over the top on calories.

3. Portion control

Now and again, have whatever you like but just a tiny portion so you get to taste it without a huge calorie consumption. Eat your treat very slowly and enjoy every bit. For example, a single small scoop of chocolate chip ice cream eaten with the tip of a teaspoon will give you every bit as much enjoyment as a whole plateful gobbled down at lightening speed.

4. Work it off

If you really must have something, work out how many calories it is and how much exercise you'll need to do to work it off - then do that exercise and earn your treat. You can do your chosen exercise afterwards but this one normally works best if you make yourself burn the calories first. You may be amazed how much effort it is for a piece of cake and it will put you off cheating in future!

5. Plan it

Once a month allow yourself a day off. Choose whatever you like to eat but don't stuff yourself silly. If you have been on a program which promotes healthy eating (rather than diet deprivation) you may be surprised at how much your tastes change so that after a month you don't even enjoy the junk or want it as much as you thought you would.

Why You Are Fat – Natural Weight Loss Dieting Program

by: Chris Chew

Have you ever wondered why you are fat and have considered going on a weight loss dieting program? If you did, then you must know why certain food makes you fat.

Most if not all of us are somewhat carbohydrate addicts. We have pastas, pizzas, white rice, spaghettis, bread, refined flour food and confectionaries in almost if not all our meals. Just look at the queues at the fast food joints on a regular day and you will know what I mean. Bread and sweet sugary drinks are the menu of the day, naturally.

Some of us are reluctant to embark on a weight loss dieting program to lose that excess baggage (body fat) because we think it is an exercise in sheer willpower and futility.

"You are asking me not to eat bread/rice/pizzas/hamburgers, chocolates and ice-creams my entire life? You must be nuts!" Sounds familiar? For those who incessantly snack on biscuits and chocolates between meals to stave off hunger while working at the office, here is why.

You unwittingly and naturally reach for such snacks because of the food you chose to eat earlier at an earlier meal. If you start the day with three or four slices of white bread spread with fruit jam or margarine and then wash it down with coffee and sugar, you can be sure you will be craving for snacks by mid-morning even though your breakfast was a filling one.

When your food made up primarily of carbohydrate, especially refined carbohydrate like white bread and pizzas, with little protein or fat, not to mention high in sugar, your blood glucose surges crazily following that meal.

To counter the effect of extreme glucose surge in your blood stream, your pancreas will pump more insulin than usual to bring your blood glucose level down. What happens then is that your blood glucose surges will then dip lower than your pre-meal level. When this happens, you start to get hungry and crave for more sweet stuff and more carbohydrate. This is why you reach for sweet snacks and drinks instinctively. Thus the vicious cycle continues again and again and you are eating more and more calories. So choosing the food in your meal is important so that you will not get hungry fast and then consume more calories to satisfy that hunger upsetting your natural weight loss dieting program.

When more carbohydrate is consumed than can be stored by your liver and muscles as glycogen, they are naturally converted to fat. So what should you do?

Well, you can start to limit your carbohydrate consumption (note that I said limit and not stop) and on top of that, choose slow digesting carbohydrates especially carbohydrate with fibers like fibrous vegetables, fruits, legumes, brown rice and brown bread, your insulin spike will not be so eccentric and therefore you will not get hungry or having your sweet tooth so often.

Now think about it, if you do not reach for your snacks and sugary drinks that often, it means that you are consuming fewer calories. So if your caloric consumption is less than your caloric expenditure, you are right on a natural weight loss dieting program without even realizing it. Better still, you are not going on a hunger and starvation diet because you will not get hungry that easily.

Just imagine now that you are losing weight naturally, what if you incorporate an exercise routine into your natural weight loss dieting program to burn off some more calories? Your natural weight loss result will be amazing wouldn’t it?

Now that you know why you are fat, let’s get started on this natural weight loss dieting program.

A Simple To Follow Weight Loss Program

by: Steve Hill

This article gives free tips and advice about how to lose weight. Dieting does not need to be a choir, however many of the weight loss programs that are available make it this way. During the article, I describe an easy to follow diet or weight loss program which has helped me to reach a weight that I am now happy and feel comfortable with.

My background

My name is Steve Hill and I struggled to keep my weight under control for the first twenty-two years of my life. I was often teased at school and found it very hard to meet girls as I believed that there would be no way, that they would want to date somebody as fat as myself.

I was a very negative person and I frequently felt stressed and depressed. I often felt sorry for myself and would feel envious of other people who seemed fit, healthy and happy. During these periods of depression, I would often comfort eat to make myself feel better. I love food and this would temporarily help. The problem I found was that if I ate food for ten minutes, I would feel a sense of guilt for around two hours.

Like many people who are over-weight, I was not happy this way and often looked into different types of weight loss plan or diets. Maybe it is just me, but they seem so unrealistic and for somebody like myself impossible to follow. I needed a simple, easy to follow weight loss program.

The solution to my weight problem

The first thing I had to do was to be honest with myself. I asked myself a series of questions:

Why are you over-weight?

I do not eat the right types of food and I rarely exercise.

How determined are you to lose weight?

Very determined.

Are you willing for this to be a long term project, or are you looking for a quick fix?

The quicker the better, however I realise that crash diets do not work and end up causing more harm than good.

Do you feel you have enough self-discipline to succeed?

I am not sure but I will have to have, to reach my target weight.

The weight loss plan

These are the things I must do:

Eat three healthy meals a day.

Exercise more. This will be achieved by leaving the car at home more often and by walking to certain places, such as my children's school. I will also take the children to play sports like football and tennis, as often as I can.

Fight the demons in my head who constantly tempt me into eating.

These are the things I must not do:

Snack in between meals.

Eat too many take-aways, I will basically allow myself one a week.

Lie to other people or even myself about what I have eaten.

This sounds so simple and is very easy to follow. I have to admit that it is not that easy to carry off, especially not being able to snack between meals. With determination you can succeed and the sense of happiness and pride you will feel when you reach a weight you are happy with, will make it all worthwhile.

Best Weight Loss Programs for Combating Fat

by: Nathalie Fiset
It's coming. The signs are already everywhere and you just know the inevitable. With the market brimming with calorie- laden processed foodstuffs combined with the sedentary lifestyle of today, more and more people are facing the problem of getting fat. Not just plain fat- obese.
Obesity can't all be that bad if it's just the mocking and the inability to do most normal things like running and climbing a long length of stairs… then again, with obesity comes high blood pressure, heart diseases, respiratory problems, diabetes and arthritis among other ailments. If you want to live long enough to enjoy your golden years, gear up for another version of the Battle of the Bulge.
Obesity does not choose its victims. It can sink in as early as the age of six and decreases life expectancy by an average of 7- 20%, not to forget that the pollution and stress will make those numbers rise even higher. Factors to obesity include age, gender, genetics, stress, lifestyle and of course, food.
Most weight loss programs target the elimination of unnecessary calories or those calories beyond a person's required basal metabolism- that's the amount of calories needed to keep a person's basic bodily functions up and running normally. However, with the fads and trends of "Kate Moss" models, some programs go as far as starvation and gastric bypasses.
These are not recommended for a lot of reasons but let's enumerate some for good measure:
1) Quick weight loss tactics only mean quick weight loss- not permanent, not long- term and not healthy.
2) Complications can and will arise from drastic measures beginning with the lack of nutrients. Besides, obese people usually don't do well under the knife unless the doctors say so.
3) Do you really want liposuction? Or cutting off a part of your stomach or intestine?
Some programs focus on removing the sources of fat from a person's diet. The Eat More, Weigh Less does just that by encouraging fruits, vegetables, whole grains and little meat without any caloric restrictions whatsoever as long as the fat content falls below 10% of what you eat. The Pritkin diet also goes along these lines. But before choosing any of these diets, one must consider that fat- the unsaturated kind- is also essential to our body. Some critics have said that these diets are not for everyone, especially those who have high- fat bodies, as the diet will only lead to an inadequacy in fatty acids.
The Atkins diet promotes protein since Dr. Robert Atkins believes that carbohydrates are the main causes of obesity. The diet would allot a person meals consisting of 36% protein, 8% carbohydrates, 53% fat or for maintenance 24% protein, 40% fat, 31% carbohydrates. Another popular diet called the South Beach diet also makes meat a hero by advocating foodstuffs that are high in protein, high in fiber, low in carbohydrates and low in animal fats. Although the South Beach diet was developed for those with a high risk of getting diabetes or heart diseases, the aforementioned diet does not balance the basic food groups.
Then there's the McDougall Project for Maximum Weight Loss, which is basically a vegan diet. Think greens and yellows as these should make up 1/3 of what you eat.
Another example is the Weight Watchers Winning Points program. Based on your statistics and details, the program will allot you "points" that you can use when choosing what to eat. All you have to do is to remain within that range by taking care to select what's right. Vegetables almost have an equivalent of 0 while fruits have 1-2 points per serving. Complex carbohydrates and fats have the highest.
What you can do to get the best program for you is get to the root of the problem and attack from that point. Be idealistic when setting goals. The weight lost per week should fall in the range of ¾- 2 lbs and not exceeding 3. It will be slow at first. Weight lost during the early stages will be mostly water fat so a doctor's supervision is really needed if you plan on losing a lot of pounds.
The body will adapt quickly to the diet so prep up the arsenal with a combination of aerobic (running) and anaerobic (weight training) exercise. In order to maintain this, exercise for at least 15- 30 minutes in increasing increments per day.
The program should also include help for when hunger anxiety attacks and depression urges you to binge. Losing weight involves the mindset too.
Those are just some examples of diet programs, which promise weight loss. But here's catch, what works for others may not work for you. For example, there's such a diet that dictates what you can and can't eat based on your blood type. One can't guarantee same results on such general terms. Weight and build depends on a lot of factors and not just on a single basis as blood type. Word of advice: have a weight loss program tailored for you. Specialists can aid you on this one and with their supervision you will win this fight!

Did you know that the alcoholic drinks and cocktails that's being offered to you contain an incredible number of calories? If you are not careful, the party drinks can be an absolute killer for your weight loss plans during this holiday season.

"I'll just have a little..."

If you are not careful, this little phrase can be an absolute killer for your weight loss plans during this holiday season.

And I'm not just talking about the food.

The hidden danger is in all the alcoholic drinks and cocktails that's being offered to you. Yes, those party drinks can do more harm other than just getting you intoxicated and embarassingly uninhibited!

Did you know that these drinks contain an incredible number of calories?

In fact, alcohol is the number two most energy-dense food, losing out only to fat. Fat has 9 calories per gram, and alcohol comes in a close second at a whopping 7 calories per gram.

What this means is that each alcoholic drink you consume will cause you to take in an alarmingly high number of calories.

Here's a sample of some of the more popular drinks, together with their calorie counts...

1 glass of Bailey's lrish Cream - 468 calories
1 glass of Margarita - 453 calories
1 glass of Martini - 413 calories
1 glass of Pina Colada - 297 calories
1 glass of Vodka Cranberry - 250 calories
1 glass of Rum & cola - 240 calories
1 glass of Screwdriver - 200 calories
1 mug of beer - 150 calories
1 glass of white wine - 120 calories
1 tequila shot - 100 calories

To put those calorie counts into perspective, I'd like to just point out that 2 glasses of Margaritas would have given you about _half_ of your daily calories requirements. Yes, 50% from just 2 drinks.

And we have not even included the calories from the food, nuts and snacks yet! Once we add those in, can you see how easy it is for you to go over the daily calorie requirements, and start piling on the pounds?

Now, this doesn't mean that you should stay away from the alcoholic drinks. It's just that when you drink, you should keep in mind the huge amount of calories in the drinks.

I want you to have fun this holiday. So, if you are the sort that enjoys a drink of two at your parties, I want to leave you with a couple of useful tips to help to reduce the "guilt factor".

- Fill up your glass with lots of ice cubes. You'll not only get a nice cold drink, the water from the melted ice has zero calories too.

- Use soda water to dilute your drink. This helps to fill you up quicker, and it means you won't get tipsy too quickly.

- And probably the most important tip... Do not use the alcoholic drinks to quench your thirst. Remember, you should be drinking these party drinks for fun. After the heavy meal or when you had too much salty snacks, go drink a big glass of water first to quench your thirst. Water works better for this, and it has zero calories!

I hope you have loads of fun... and Happy Holidays!

The Best Weight Loss Program

by: Donovan Baldwin

WHAT THE BEST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM IS NOT.

The best weight loss program is NOT about diets, diet pills, fad diets, or even dieting. While it involves physical activity...we're all adults here, I'll use the word..exercise...it is NOT about pushing your physical limits, embarrassing yourself in front of the neighbors, joining an expensive gym, or hiring a personal trainer. It is NOT about joining a cult, avoiding friends, alienating your family, eating only disgusting, uappealing and unappetizing foods or feeling guilty and depressed. Most of all, it should NEVER be about BEING ALONE in your struggle.

WHAT THE BEST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM IS!

In it's simplest form, the best weight loss program is the one you will stick with. Let's modify that a little and say that it is a healthy, doable, rational, flexible program you will stick with...that works!

THE BASIC FACTS ABOUT DIETING AND WEIGHT LOSS!

Diets don't work. Yep! That simple. Oh, if you want to drop 5 or 10 lbs to look good at your sister's wedding, a quick diet might be okay. But if you truly have a weight problem, as over 50% of Americans do, it is a lifelong condition and requires lifelong measures. However, don't consider yourself doomed to a life without pleasure or happiness, and don't give up. Go back and read the first paragraph, and realize that there are things that CAN be done, and YOU CAN DO THEM. In the meantime however, let me just cover a few facts. Quick and dirty. You can scan through them and just get the basics. This article is not going to be big enough, nor intimidating enough, to include everything.

WHY DIETS DON'T WORK.

Diets don't work for a lot of reasons, physical and mental, but I don't have enough space here to cover all of them. If you would like to read more on this, I have a webpage at http://nodiet4me.net/10reasons.html that gives 10 reasons why diets don't work, and those aren't the only reasons, either. The main reason a diet will not work is that your body has some really effective self-regulating mechanisms. If you deprive it of it's expected calorie intake over a period of time, it will adjust itself to need less calories. Although you will be eating less (and definitely not enjoying it), your body will settle into a new pattern and your weight will level off with only a small weight loss. Even worse, when you stop dieting, as you know you will, the body will keep its new level of calorie need while you return to your old eating habits. This brings us to another point.

THE BASIC LAW OF WEIGHT LOSS AND WEIGHT GAIN.

Everybody's body works to it's own rhythm and needs, but they all follow the same law. If you take in more calories than your body needs, it will store the excess as fat. Bottom line. Fact. End of discussion...almost. Using the information in the paragraph above, you can see that when you quit your diet and go back to eating the old way after your body has adjusted its needs downward, you now have MORE EXCESS CALORIES TO BE STORED AS FAT! This is why people often GAIN WEIGHT after a diet...or series of diets.

SO WHAT IS THE BEST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM?

As you can see, you are back at the beginning of this discussion, but with a little more information. We can still say that the best weight loss program is the one you will stick with, and now you know a little more about why. Since we are all different, the obvious fact should be that what you need to find is not THE best weight loss program, but YOUR best weight loss program...the one YOU will stick with. The biq question in your mind is...

HOW DO YOU FIND "YOUR" BEST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM?

There are a lot of things you can do to improve your health, your life, and your personal weight situation, such as drink more water, get plenty of sleep, do things that you enjoy, for example. These can all contribute to weight loss, but let's just look at two things for now.

1. Become more active: Notice, I avoided saying, "exercise". Whoops! I said it. Look, exercise equals activity. If you want to do Richard Simmons' tapes and "Sweat to the Oldies", more power to you. If you choose to buy a Bowflex and in a few months look like the grandmother in their TV commercials, that's great! Odds are however, you just need to make some lifestyle adjustments and become more aware of the opportunities that exist to "exercise" in daily life. Oh sure, a planned and scheduled exercise program is great, but so is a walk, or gardening, or swimming, or cleaning house, or...well, you get the idea. The only need is to make it regular,at least 4 or 5 times a week, and to make it challenging.

Only you can assess what is challenging. What is challenging today may simply be walking out to the mailbox and back. One lady started her "exercise program" with that simple step (no pun intended). Another gentleman started his program by walking to the end of his block. That first day, he thought he wouldn't even be able to get back to his house. A few weeks later, he was walking over a mile. At one point in my life, I regularly ran over 6 miles at a time. However, the first time I ever tried to run, I didn't make it half a block. The key is to get started, do it regularly, and challenge yourself.

Becoming more active not only burns calories during the activity (remember, the more calories burned the less fat stored), but continuing the activity over time (you were going to do it regularly) causes your body to shift to a new level where it automatically burns more calories than it used to. The facts behind this are not complicated but require a lot more space than we have here, and I did say I was going to keep to the basics.

People drop out of "exercise programs" for a lot of reasons. For your purposes, do the activity as it fits in your schedule, pick the activity that pleases you, and vary the activity...if you cleaned house yesterday, take a walk today. By the way, if I told you to exercise, to take a walk, you might begin that avoidance process that makes people drop out of formal, planned exercise programs. Why don't you take the grandkids to the zoo instead? If that isn't a workout, I don't know what is. Be creative. It's your "exercise program", make it what you want it to be.

2. Eat sensibly: You know how you SHOULD be eating, right! Back to basics. Lots of vegetables, cut down on portion sizes, have an apple instead of pie or a candy bar. Take the sugar out of your life. There are all kinds of diet tips running around. Not a single one of them is worth a hill of beans...but a bunch of them add up to a lot more than a hill of beans. Changing only one thing is probably not going to make a big difference, but...IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE! changing seventeen things might make quite a difference, but there's a secret...

Don't try to make all seventeen, or twelve, or thirty changes all at once. Start with one change, and once it is part of your life, make the next one. You might want to learn a little bit about Kaizen. Small steps in the nutrition area will help get you where you want to go eventually, just as taking that small walk out to the mailbox may someday lead to walking one or two miles at a time.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO STAY ON THIS WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM?

Well, for the rest of your life. That's why it is important to choose activities you enjoy and learn to make better nutrition choices while still enjoying the pleasure of eating. Also, many people have weight loss problems because they have personal issues with life. Your personal weight loss program, regular activity plus nutritional common sense, equals a sense of control over a situation that produces many negative affects in your life. A sense of control over that situation allows you to remove many of those negative affects and move on to rearrange other parts of your life that may need attention.

One last point. I have kept this as simple as possible, but it is based on a large body of information. If you truly want to create the most effective weight loss program for you, you will have to learn a lot more than you probably know now. The public library is a good place to start, as is the internet.

How To Lose Weight Easily, Quickly And Naturally Program - Natural Weight Loss

It is easy to lose weight quickly and naturally if you have a systematic weight loss program. Many people failed to lose weight successfully because of the natural tendency to choose easy quick fix programs such as going on drastic diets, popping diet pills or persuaded to buy some exercise gadgets that simply do not work. In my other articles, I have addressed these issues and why such easy quick fix programs simply do not work in the long term and will not repeat them here.

To lose weight quickly, naturally and easily, you have to combine a healthy eating habit, correct cardio and strengthening exercises. We shall touch on the subject of how to lose weight quickly and naturally through a healthy eating program in this article.

• Increase Your Metabolism – Eat 5-6 small meals daily. It has been scientifically proven that by eating frequently, you will raise your body’s natural metabolism. That means your body will burn more fat naturally. You become a fat burning machine all day long.

• Eat Less Calories – Although you need to increase meal frequency to lose weight naturally, you must be mindful of your caloric consumption. Calories consumed must not exceed calories expanded for your daily energy. So keep your meals small and cut down on dietary fats as each gram of fat contains 9 calories whereas each gram of protein and carbohydrate contains only 4 calories.

• Avoid Starchy And Processed Flour Foodstuffs – These foodstuffs are easy to digest and turn into sugar rapidly and in turn get converted to body fat if these sugar calories are not used up as energy quickly. So ditch your cakes, cookies, pizzas, pastas, white rice etc Replace them with high fiber bread, legumes, brown rice, grains and nuts instead. So stay away from fast food restaurants as most fast food menus offer such foodstuff.

• Avoid All Sugary and Soft Drinks – Reason is obvious. Most if not all of these kind of drinks are heavily laced with sugar and sugar gets converted to body fat very quickly. You have to run on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes just to burn away a can’s worth of calories in a soft drink. Just imagine how much body fat you will accumulate if you drink just three cans of soft drinks a day along with 2 cups of sugar added coffee?

• Avoid All Forms Of Alcohol – There are about 7 calories in a gram of alcohol. Alcohol calories have zero nutritional value. They are just mere empty calories. Indulging in regular alcohol consumption not only wrecks your health, it will set back your weight loss program completely.

Oh….so you think this eating habit is difficult to implement or that you will miss your sugary foodstuffs and soft drinks? Not to worry. You may experience some withdrawal symptoms at first but after a week or two, you will be weaned off your sugar and simple carbohydrate cravings. Once your addictions to these foods are curbed, you will no longer have your sweet tooth and will naturally avoid such foodstuff.

Just by following these healthy eating habits, you will start to lose weight easily, quickly and naturally. Include cardio and weight lifting exercises into your weight loss program and your weight loss will be permanent.

Healthy Weight Loss Program: How to Choose the Right Foods

by: Malton A. Schexneider, PT, MMSc
For thousands of years, our ancestors selected their daily meals from the bounty of the earth’s animal and vegetable harvests. The traditional diets of most human cultures consisted of an almost unlimited variety of ingredients and recipes.
Today, however, our food sources suffer from a lack of quality, diversity, and balance. Natural foods have been replaced with processed and synthetic foods, which have weakened our digestive systems resulting in poor nutrition to the cells, tissues, organs, and systems of our bodies.
To achieve peak performance in any activity requires your body to burn energy. Energy, then, is the byproduct of high performance fuel that will improve the quality of your life and make you healthier than you ever thought possible. In fact, the higher the energy level, the more efficient your body becomes. The more efficient your body becomes, the better you feel. And, the better you feel, the easier it is to achieve the results you are striving for.
So, what is this high performance fuel that will create this abundance of energy for our bodies to burn? The answer is simply the food we eat.
Good nutritional choices play a major role in a healthy weight loss plan. By making small, but effective changes in your daily food intake, you can begin feeling better and improving the quality of your life.
Nutritional science is so confusing and contradictory that to even begin to adapt a universal set of principles to your lifestyle would be nearly impossible. Nevertheless, there are specific key concepts of a well designed healthy weight loss program that include:
1. Making good food choices can be nutritious, enjoyable and energizing.
2. Dieting not only does not work, but can actually take years off your life.
3. Simple modifications in meal choices can reverse how we age.
4. The program is sensible and easy to maintain even when dining out.
5. Losing weight and body fat is achievable & sustainable without drastic alterations or limitations in your lifestyle.
The ideal weight loss program will take a balanced approach to nutrition. By incorporating medically sound and scientifically based research into a healthy plan, your program will not only be effective, but also easy to incorporate into your lifestyle. The two main components of the medically sound nutrition plan include:
* Macronutrient combination
* Stabile blood sugar
Macronutrient Combination
Through the prescribed combination of both macro- and micronutrients, the entire nutritional puzzle is solved. The macronutrients make up the vast bulk and balance of our diets and are found in whole foods. The micronutrients are found within the macronutrients and will be discussed in a supplemental article. The primary macronutrients found in our foods include:
* Proteins
* Carbohydrates
* Fats
Your understanding of each of these components and how you combine them in the foods you eat will determine how successful your overall outcome will be.

Protein:
Proteins contain amino acids, which are the building blocks of your body. Your body can utilize proteins to maintain immune strength as well as to build and repair muscle tissue. Simply put, the greater the muscle mass, the more calories your body will burn. Proteins also promote the release of glucagon, a powerful fat burning hormone.
How much protein should you eat and what are the best sources?
For each individual, the amount of protein may vary. In general, active individuals should consume at least one gram of protein per pound of body weight. A sustainable nutrition plan understands the importance of protein as it relates to muscle building and fat burning and will usually recommend meal plans that are 50% protein. We have found this combination to be the best at optimizing fat loss and losing weight.
When selecting protein sources, ideally, you want to opt for protein sources that are low in fat. Protein sources that are the most desirable include chicken, turkey, fish, whey protein and low fat soy and dairy products. Current studies have shown that incorporating these nourishing proteins in your daily nutritional regimen can help slow the ageing process and prolong your life. Because a greater protein intake is encouraged, proper hydration must also be maintained. For protein to be effectively broken down and utilized by our body, appropriate water intake is a must.

Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates are an important source of energy for your body. Unfortunately, not all carbohydrates are created equal. Your body processes simple and complex carbohydrates differently. As a result, your energy level, mood, and metabolic processes are all influenced by your choice of carbohydrates.
Simple carbohydrates are the refined sugars. Common sweeteners such as honey, table sugar and brown sugar are considered simple sugars. What many people do not know is that alcohol, white bread, pasta, and fruit juice are also simple sugars. These foods when digested, are converted to glucose (sugar), and cause an immediate rise in your blood sugar level. With a spike in your sugar levels, insulin is released, which converts these excess sugars to fat.
Complex carbohydrates are eventually broken down into sugar, however, the process by which this occurs differs from simple carbohydrate break down. Complex carbohydrates assimilate into our system at a much slower rate. As a result, blood sugar stability is maintained and insulin levels remain at normal levels. Typically, complex carbohydrates are high in fiber, low in sugar and have a low glycemic index rating. Examples of high quality carbohydrates include broccoli, cauliflower, apples, oranges, whole grain breads, beans and sweet potatoes.
How much carbohydrate should you eat and what are the best sources?
The best sources of complex carbohydrates are raw, non-starchy vegetables and whole fruits. These foods are high in fiber, which is critical for elimination and stable blood sugar. In addition, complex carbohydrates are your best source of glucose, which is the only fuel your brain can burn. Complex carbohydrates are also involved in assisting the body in burning fat and antioxidants, necessary for disease prevention.
Recommendations on the amount of carbohydrates needed by the body will vary. For the most part, however, a healthy meal plan will usually recommend at least 1 cup of carbohydrates per meal. This should account for about 30% of your total food consumption

Essential Fats:
As Americans we consume almost 35% of our daily calories from fat. Most often this is saturated fat. Studies have shown that consuming a diet high in saturated fat can lead to heart disease and decreased immune function. In other words, consuming foods high in saturated fat will shorten your life.
An important point to remember is that consuming the right kind of fat can be beneficial in your attempt to manage your weight, and live an enhanced lifestyle. These fats and oils speed up metabolism, regulate your hormones, facilitate fat burning, and strengthen your immune system. Of particular importance is role essential fats and oils play in stabilizing blood sugar levels by slowing the emptying of the stomach. Essential fats provide you with:
* Concentrated energy
* Compounds needed for cellular metabolism
* Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, which aid in the burning of fat
How much essential fat should you eat and what are the best sources? Essential fats occur naturally and do not undergo any additional processing. Examples of foods that contain these valuable essential fats include fish such as salmon and tuna, raw nuts, avocados, flax seed oils and olive oil. The best sources of essential fats and oils come from plants. Most healthy weight loss plans recommend that no more than 20% of your diet come from fat. This translates to a minimum of 1 – 2 tablespoons of raw oil, or ¼ cup of raw seeds or nuts, or 1 – 2 tablespoons of raw nut butter per meal.
A solid healthy weight loss program will add years to your life and provide you with an abundance of energy.
Do you want to learn more about how to lose weight and keep it off? I've just finished a new ebook on how you can get lasting weight loss results, "The 10 Step Permanent Weight Loss Formula".

New Groundbreaking Weight Loss Program: Eat Carbs to Lose Weight and Boost Health

by: Mark Hyman, M.D.
Dr. Hyman is one of the country's foremost practitioners in functional medicine, and breaks new ground with The UltraSimple Diet, a revolutionary weight loss program, in which he addresses the two most important underlying causes of disease and obesity.
What makes this weight loss program so different?
* Dieters will discover that eating carbs is the single most important thing to lose weight and stay healthy.
* Weight loss is achieved by fixing the underlying chronic health problems causing the increase in weight: toxicity and inflammation.
* Increased health and well being is achieved by finding out what is poisoning the body.
* When the aggravation from toxins and inflammation is removed, the body's natural intelligence takes over to create automatic health and weight loss.
* There is no calorie counting and the program is truly simple and so very easy to follow.
The UltraSimple Diet is a seven-day program focusing on healing and repair. As a pioneer in treatments that apply the natural power and interaction of bodily systems, Dr. Hyman's theories reveal how to take control of weight loss by eating foods that send information and instructions for weight loss and health to the body.
For example, one can compare the liver to a factory. A primary function of this "factory" is cleansing, healing and repair. However, if all the effort and work in the factory is put into fielding and fighting incoming harmful substances, there is no time left to take care of cleansing the body of existing harmful substances to allow the body to heal or repair. The UltraSimple Diet addresses this problem by opening the door to let in only the good foods -- foods the body uses to heal and repair, which then results in automatic weight loss.
Nutritious vegetables and fruits, which many people forget are carbohydrates, contain powerful phytonutrients - natural chemical compounds found in plants -- that provide extraordinary health benefits and help eliminate toxins and cool inflammation. By choosing a detox diet of real, whole, mostly plant foods that are full of fiber, anti-inflammatory, sugar balancing and include detoxifying nutrients, it is possible to stop the hormonal roller coaster of food cravings and overeating that often lead to a falling off the wagon. It is quite amazing that with this diet it is actually possible to maintain healthy habits and weight loss for life.

Benefits from following the The UltraSimple Diet seven-day plan may include:
* Increase in energy
* Loss of puffiness in the face and around the eyes
* The skin begins to glow
* The senses are heightened
* Better sleep and fewer allergies
* Joint and muscle aches begin to disappear
* Digestive problems begin to go away
* Greater mental clarity
The UltraSimple Diet, is available in a $7.99 paperback that includes simple, detailed, daily plans for each day of the week, including shopping and task lists. Readers also have access to The UltraSimple Diet online weight loss community that provides practical tools for success.

Troubles Caused by Inflammation Resolved with New Weight Loss Program

by: Mark Hyman, M.D.
How can you, in a week or less, get dramatic relief from terrible symptoms you thought you had to live with the rest of your life? There's a fundamental hidden culprit that's linked to everything from obesity to all the chronic diseases of aging. Addressing this issue that makes us sick and overweight can help create long-term health, vitality, and weight loss.
I'll give you the key to solving this problem -- and unlocking good health. I'm talking about inflammation.
You're probably familiar with the pain, swelling, redness, and heat that classically signify inflammation. It's something just about every one out there has experienced. Inflammation is part of the body's natural defense system. When your body senses foreign invaders, your white blood cells and some special chemicals called cytokines mobilize to protect you. This normal type of inflammation is a good thing. It helps your body protect and heal itself. However, when your immune system shifts out of balance, inflammation can run rampant -- causing a chronic, smoldering fire inside your body that contributes to disease and weight gain.
The UltraSimple Diet plan effectively tackles inflammation head on. This one week kick-start brings improved health and rapid weight loss. Poor health and disease is caused by poor food choices -- including consuming sugar and bad fats -- hidden food allergens, lack of exercise, and chronic stress. These actions trigger raging, unseen inflammation deep in the cells and tissues. Inflammation can lead to the chronic diseases of aging - heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia, and more. And of course, weight gain. Being fat is being inflamed -- period!
It's simple. If you don't address inflammation by eliminating hidden food allergens or sensitivities and by eating an anti-inflammatory diet, you will never succeed at effective and permanent weight loss.
When most people think of food allergies, they usually imagine someone eating a peanut and ending up in the emergency room with a swollen tongue, hives, and not being able to breathe. But there is a different type of reaction to foods that is much less dramatic and deadly -- but still very troublesome. It is called a delayed allergy. This reaction is much more common and creates a lot of suffering for millions of people.
This type of delayed allergic reaction can cause symptoms anywhere from a few hours to a few days after ingestion. It also causes a wide range of problems like weight gain, fluid retention, fatigue, brain fog, irritable bowel syndrome, mood problems, headaches, sinus and nasal congestion, joint pains, acne, eczema, and more. If you hear someone say dismissively, "Oh, you just lost water weight," they're right (at first), because eating foods you are allergic to causes inflammation, which leads to swelling and fluid retention. Getting rid of this fluid by reducing inflammation is a GOOD thing. It is what will allow your body to start the healing process so you can achieve permanent weight loss and optimal health.
Consuming a low-allergy diet for just one week will help you eliminate the excess swelling and fluid that accumulates in your tissues from food-induced chronic inflammation. Despite criticisms you may have heard about losing ONLY water weight, this is essential for you body to begin to heal and detoxify. And the side effect is that you lose significant weight -- quickly and safely.
In my practice, treating food allergies and improving nutrition in general is the single most powerful tool I have to treat, reverse, and even cure hundreds of diseases. These include allergies, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, fatigue, sinus problems, hormonal disorders, obesity, high blood pressure, cholesterol, digestive diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, reflux, and colitis, and even mood disorders like depression and anxiety -- just to name a few.
You see, we are seeing an epidemic of inflammatory diseases. In fact nearly every modern disease -- everything from autoimmune diseases, heart disease, and cancer to obesity, diabetes, and dementia -- is caused by inflammation!
While everyone is different, there are some foods that irritate the immune system more than others. They are gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt, kamut), dairy (milk, cheese, butter, yogurt), corn, eggs, soy, nuts, nightshades (tomatoes, bell peppers, potatoes, eggplant), citrus, and yeast products.
This program is based on a simple elimination diet, cutting out allergic foods. If you suffer from inflammation and the illness and extra weight that it brings, try The UltraSimple Diet and you should find remarkable relief in the first week from life-long ailments and discover a simple detox diet that causes permanent weight loss as well as healing illness and disease.

Here's to your good health!
The UltraSimple Diet is available in a $7.99 paperback that includes simple, detailed plans for each day of the week, including shopping and task lists. A free sneak preview of the book is available for download at http://www.ultrasimplediet.com.

Healthy Weight Loss Program: Your Personal Exercise Prescription

by: Malton A. Schexneider, PT, MMSc
A fat burning exercise prescription is a MUST for the long term success of any healthy weight loss program. Guidelines for healthy weight loss related to exercise and physical activity have been steadily improving over the last 20 years.
Along with the 1996 Surgeon General's recommendations, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Heart Association have all issued statements on the importance of regular physical exercise in a healthy weight loss program.
The diet industry also endorses exercise as a beneficial component in any healthy weight loss plan.
In fact, look at the disclaimers of any fad diet, special weight loss pill, or fat reducing fruit nectar and you'll see where, in addition to the "unbelievable benefits" of their product, the practice of proper nutrition and consistent aerobic exercise are highly recommended to achieve optimal healthy weight loss results.
In other words, these companies are telling you that eating right and the incorporation of moderate aerobic exercise have more to do with the overall outcome of the healthy weight loss plan than does their "miracle pill".

Overview
1. Determine your age adjusted maximum heart rate (220 – your age = maximum heart rate)
2. Determine your optimum fat burning exercise heart rate range (maximum heart rate x .6 = minimum heart rate; maximum exercise heart rate x .75 = maximum exercise heart rate
3. Exercise for 30 minutes, 3 times per week, keeping your heart rat between 60% and 75% of your age adjusted maximum heart rate.
4. Perform the flexibility exercises listed below 2 – 3 times per week.

Exercise Prescription
Exercise, by definition, means purposeful movement. Although many kinds of exercise exist, certain exercises may not be necessarily therapeutic for you. Remember, an exercise prescription is just that; it’s a prescription. Very little benefit will be obtained with nonspecific, over the counter exercise programs. Your understanding of the purpose, principles, and adherence to each prescribed exercise technique will be essential to the development of a positive outcome.

The purposes of an exercise prescription are to:
1. Increase muscular flexibility
2. Normalize and balance muscle tone by increasing oxygen rich blood flow to the tissue
3. Integrate muscle activity
4. Restoration of functional movement
5. Restoration of functional muscle strength and endurance

The exercise principles listed below serve as a guideline for proper application. Study the principles carefully in order to maximize the effectiveness of your exercise program.
Exercises designed to improve flexibility should be performed several times per day. Each exercise should be held for 30-60 seconds to allow the tissue to elongate.
Exercise prescribed to improve strength, mobility, and endurance should be performed at a pace that would enable you to complete the prescribed number of repetitions in one minute. If multiple sets are prescribed for each exercise session, a 90 second rest interval should follow each set.
Never hold your breath during exercise. Your therapist will instruct you in the proper breathing technique that will facilitate a better exercise outcome.
You may experience a slight ache or discomfort following your first or second exercise session. This is a normal reaction referred to as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and should go away in a day or so. This type of muscle soreness is not a cause for stopping your exercise program.
If the exercise reproduces a specific pain or makes an already existing pain become more widespread, stop the exercise and inform your physician immediately.
Allow yourself enough time to complete the exercise as prescribed. Exercise sessions that are rushed through with little attention paid to technique will be ineffective and will prolong your symptoms. If time becomes an issue, perform a few repetitions several times throughout the day.
Don’t be in a hurry to advance to more strenuous exercise. Remember that tissue adaptation to new forms of stress takes time. In some cases it took years for your condition to develop. It is unrealistic to expect that the condition will be resolved after just a few exercise sessions. Compliance with your prescribed program and patience will result in the desired outcome.

So we all know that exercise is at the core of a strong weight loss program. But, there are so many ways to go about exercising, where do we begin? In reality, all it takes is consistent, exerting activity, at least 3-4 times a week. However, if you're looking for more suggestions on how to begin your weight loss exercise programs, here are 3 fields in which you might find some inspiration:

1.) Take A Hike!
Or a walk. Walking is one of the best places to begin your exercise. It takes no experience, no training, and little extra equipment - literally, all you need is a pair of shoes (and maybe some socks).
While running, of course, is the strongest means to staying fit, you can achieve the same level of exertion and burned calories by just walking over a prolonged period. In fact, many weight loss and fitness experts recommend walking as just a basic exercise program, not merely a weight loss exercise program. When you walk, you raise your heart rate, which burns calories, and builds muscle strength and elasticity. So not only will you lose weight, but you will replace it with more muscle.

2.) Why Not Weights?
Want to replace the fat with more muscle? Try weight training. But weights do more than just give you physical definition - muscles burn a lot of fat. This is because muscles need calories around the clock to maintain their tone, so even though you exercise them maybe every other day, they burn calories in the days in between, no matter what you're doing.
So if you've got strong muscles, you'll be burning calories even as you sit working at a desk. And weight training is fairly easy to begin. Maybe talk with a professional trainer at a gym about what you're trying to achieve, and they can give you certified recommendations about where to begin.

3.) Get A Gym Membership
If you're looking to weight train, a gym is perfect. Actually, if you're looking to do anything fitness-wise, a gym will easily meet your needs, and then some. A gym may just be the best place to lose weight. You can work on cardiovascular fitness, on muscular strength, or on flexibility, in many more ways than one.
If you want further direction, every gym has a certified staff that can help you find the sort of exercises that both you and your body will love. Plus, you'll find yourself in company with many other people who have weight loss in mind - so you'll hardly be alone. In fact, most likely, you'll come to really enjoy the gym, and once you get to that point, we really have to say nothing more.
No one ever said weight loss was easy, but they also never said it couldn't be fun. You can find a weight loss exercise program that's fun for you, and once you start enjoying it, losing the pounds will all be just part of the benefits. So go and get started, and have a great time!

One Shoe By Two, A Weight Loss Exercise Program For You

So it's time to start losing weight. Where do you start? The gym? Running? Maybe you don't feel ready for, or interested in either of these - that's fine, no one says you have to. The best weight loss exercise program is the one with which you're the most comfortable. But weight's got to come off somehow. The best place to begin? With a pair of shoes.
Walking is a perfect exercise for those just starting into weight loss exercise. Yet even for the long experienced, many continue to walk as a consistent exercise. Why? For such a simple activity, walking yields extraordinary benefits. Over a prolonged period, say, an hour, it is approximately equivalent to running for twenty minutes or so. Regardless of the length of a walk, you strengthen and build elasticity in muscles. And in all circumstances, you raise your heart rate, and burn calories. Not so bad for an hour a day.
Want to incorporate walking into your weight loss exercise program? It's easy - the gym's right outside your door. Just grab a pair of comfortable shoes and find a comfortable pace, but push yourself a bit - enough so that you'll feel "the burn", so to speak, after a fairly short period. Want some more tips? Check these out:

1.) Walk With A Friend
Walking in company will make the time just fly by, and be very enjoyable. Even better, an exercise partner helps you stay motivated. If you have a preset meeting time, you won't want to let your friend down - and they'll want to be there for you, too. That way, you can be sure to stick with your weight loss exercise program.

2.) Try A Pedometer
Pedometers are small electronic tools used to count steps. You just clip it to your belt, and it measures the small jolt to your body every time you take a step. If you challenge yourself to walk further each day, you know your successes. In fact, a University of Minnesota study found that pedometers actually encourage you to walk more - and lose more weight. Researchers studied two groups that walked for weight loss, one of which used a pedometer. The group with pedometers walked an average of 2500 more steps a day - or around a 30% increase. Maybe you'd like to feel that motivated, too.

3.) Change Up Your Routes
Actually, walking can be a great opportunity to get to know the area around you. It's a weight loss exercise program that never has to get old. Pick a new route each day, maybe one that goes around your neighborhood one day, or heads off to another section of town or to a trail, if you have the opportunity. Don't make your routine a routine - switch it up and make it fun!
All it takes is the lacing of your shoelaces. Your weight loss exercise program is easier than you though it was, and a lot more accessible. And remember, make it work for yourself. Pick areas you want to go, choose a time you like, and make it happen. Have fun!

Anthony J Mahavorick or Anthony Robbins is a well known personal development expert, but do you know that he has written a book on weight loss diet? If you doubt that a success coach can write about losing weight, just look at the man himself who was once a lumbering grossly overweight chap to now, a handsome trim man full of energy and inspiration.
Anthony Robbins himself said, "If you want to succeed in any aspect of your life, just find someone who has succeeded in that area and do what he did to get there." Now, Tony Robbins has succeeded in losing weight, so don't you want to do what he did?
Anthony Robbins Diet is somewhat similar to Robert Young's theory of alkalizing the body to lose or maintain one's weight although it distinguishes it with an entire way of changes of lifestyle.
The Anthony Robbins Diet is a vegetarian diet approach to life. He believes that if we do not alkalize out bodies we are heading towards self destruction. So he advises us that we should consume more alkaline vegetables and fruits and at the same time should avoid eggs and other such acidic foods to improve our health.
In reality, this diet program is not just merely about losing weight but is focused on achieving overall fitness as well as good health. When most diets, especially low carb diets like Atkins diet make us feel fatigued and sometimes even irritable, Anthony Robbins's diet program don't.
If you have read any of his personal development success books or attended any of his seminars, you will know that Tony Robbins is a health motivated man and talks of how he plans an entire life's outlook rather than merely losing weight. He teaches people how to achieve high self esteem and confidence.
Anthony Robbins Diet plan teach us how to eat vegetarian foods that are rich in alkaline so the body can maintain a ph of 7.4. He also discussed the importance of vital breathing in this book. He advocates that one must breathe correctly so that the body can get maximum oxygen from the breath. By ingesting more oxygen, our bodies will create a more alkaline environment and this in turn help in the optimum functioning of the human body. It is only when the cells are unable to release their toxins that problems such as weight gain occur. So with more oxygen, the cells in the body will be healthier.
In the diet, he encourages people to drink at least three liters of alkaline water and advises people to exercise regularly. This is because without regular exercises, the lungs do not get enough oxygen. The diet plan suggests that people need to do cardio exercises at least four days a week. Cardio or aerobic exercises strengthen the heart and lungs and also draws in high oxygen intake.
Not surprisingly, he also preaches weight loss goal setting. As the book claimed, with the Anthony Robbins diet plan, practitioners will not only gain good health and weight loss but also a happy and relaxed mind.
If your goal is to lose weight and be healthy, perhaps Anthony Robbins diet plan is just the solution for you.

Losing weight is a process by itself that you must learn continuously in order to succeed. Without this positive weight loss approach you will not be successful and remember you alone are the one who has the power to lose the unwanted pounds from your body.
A simple technique is to strengthen your positive thoughts that are like muscles and the ones you use most grow the strongest. 'Think like a winner'. If you always look at the negative side of things and opting to be pessimistic in your approach, even your weak negative thoughts will have stronger impact on you and last longer than your powerful positive thoughts.
When a negative thought seeds in your mind, immediately replace it by talking to yourself that you're the one having unique strengths and capabilities to turn things possible. Negative thinking doesn’t do anything good; on the contrary, it holds you back from achieving anything in life that you want to.
Day in and day out you must always think what lies ahead of you. Investigate the weight loss programs that appeal to you and that you feel should teach you the skills you need to stay with, the program, throughout the weight loss process.

It will certainly raise your confidence limits while your approach to anything in life will exude optimism.
Your weight loss program will, most likely, include some physical exercises. You should look at the exercising aspect of your program as fun and recreation and not as a form of grueling and sweaty work. The fact is that physical fitness draws extra energy and improves personal effectiveness in every walk of your daily life.
Walking is one of the best exercises. It helps the total micro circulation of blood to all parts of the body, and thus has a direct effect on your overall better feeling of health. You will need to learn wiser eating skills. You will want a weight loss regimen that gives you some control over your eating habits, instead of imposing one rigid system. Look for one wise eating skill that offers a variety of different diet plans, so you can choose the one that's best and compatible for you.
You need to discuss the options with your physician and take his advice in planning your exercise and weight loss program. A periodical guidance from your doctor will definitely put you on the road map of success to weight loss program.
Get the support among your family and friends. It can be of immense help to discuss obstacles and share skills and tactics with others on the same path. How to Choose The Best Weight Loss Program

by: Howard McGarity

You have tried losing weight on your own and you have even had some success. But life is hectic and stressful and in time, the pounds always creep back. Now you weigh more than you did a year ago.

This is discouraging and depressing and like many others you might be thinking that you just can't face another diet alone. When you were at the end of your rope did you ever consider the support of a formal weight loss program?
For many, this is a good idea. By having professional guidance and an organization as your "buddy" you have a much better chance of success.

BUT BE CAREFUL! Not all programs are created equal. If you want to choose wisely, here are six questions you should ask.

1. DOES THE PROGRAM EMPHASIZE OVERALL FITNESS AND GOOD HEALTH? If the advertising emphasizes dramatic before and after photos with claims of the ease and speed of pounds lost per week, beware. Average weight loss during an extended program should not exceed two pounds per week. This is equal to fifty pounds in six months or one hundred pounds a year. Is the goal of the program to achieve a normal bodyweight as the natural result of a balanced lifestyle that promotes health and fitness?
2. IS THE MEAL PLAN PALATABLE AND NUTRITIOUS AND AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL GROCERY? Your first consideration is that the meals on a plan include a variety of tasty foods that supply all the nutrients necessary for long-term health. This eliminates menus that prohibit entire categories of food or limit portions to the point that you are always hungry. Some plans "do it for you" by providing prepared meals and snacks to manage what and how much you eat. This is easy and effective (and expensive) but your success is dependent upon the prepared meals. How long do you plan to buy prepackaged food? What happens when you start shopping and cooking for yourself and return to eating out? See number three below.
3. IS THE PROGRAM BASED ON LEARNING HOW TO CHANGE DIETARY AND LIFESTYLE HABITS? Lifestyle behaviors can be "relearned" and this should be the backbone of any good program. This is the only way that you will become permanently lean, fit and healthy. This is the only way that you can walk away, free of the oppressive burden of lifetime, yo-yo dieting.
4. WILL YOU LEARN HOW TO DEAL WITH SITUATIONS THAT CAUSE YOU TO BACKSLIDE? Will you have live support when the going gets tough? Will you learn strategies to deal with lifestyle saboteurs when they arrive to ruin your plans?
5. IS EXERCISE A PART OF THE PROGRAM? Exercise is an indispensable part of a balanced fitness plan. Exercise provides a big metabolic boost to losing weight and simultaneously reduces stress and elevates your mood. Equally important however, is that exercise prevents the loss of lean muscle mass during periods of reduced caloric intake and is also critical for long-term weight maintenance. See number six below.
6. ARE THERE FOLLOW-UP PLANS TO HELP YOU KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF PERMANENTLY? People experience different learning curves when it comes to changing their lifestyle. No matter how effective a plan is over the short-term, you have wasted your time, effort and money if you have to start from the beginning over and over again. Make sure that the plan you choose emphasizes permanent weight loss and has a system to support your efforts until you are comfortable going it alone.

Healthy Weight Loss Programs-The Answer To Prolonged Quality Of Life

For a very significant (and growing) minority of people living in the west today waging a lifelong battle with being overweight is the price to be paid for all the other comforts of living in today’s post-industrial society. This is an issue that society as a whole has only really just got to grips with as the magnitude of the cost to the health and economic welfare of the populace at large, has become realised, with people now being encouraged to embrace healthy weight loss programs.
A lot of people do not realise that being overweight is very much an environmental issue. Today we are all increasingly aware of environmental issues and more conscious of the health implications of being fat, we don’t realise that these subjects are closely interrelated. The plague of obesity in the western world is largely a function of the social environment in which we live nowadays because present day living conditions are substantially at odds with the environment that human beings evolved to survive in, over many millennia. This disparity between the conditions in which we are adapted to thrive naturally and the pampered and overprovided lives most of us live today, is the single most significant reason that so many people suffer from weight related health issues. Anyone with a weight problem can benefit from understanding exactly how these factors impact weight loss efforts, in order to follow a healthier course.
Medical trials have shown that obesity has a strong link with the development of something called the “metabolic syndrome”, a term applied to a cluster of medical problems including elevated insulin levels, high blood pressure, excessive waistline body fat and increased cholesterol, which increase the risk of diabetes stroke and heart disease. Men with three of these factors are twice as likely to suffer heart attack or stroke and three times as likely to develop heart disease. Anyone who thinks they may have any of the components of metabolic syndrome, should urgently consider appropriate lifestyle changes by quitting smoking and getting onto a proven healthy diet & fitness program, to avoid developing one of these life
One of the factors of living in today’s high-pressure world is a tendency for people to want results “yesterday”. It is not surprising therefore that so many people chase after “quick fix” weight loss answers even though the results are invariably not long-lasting and which often end in disappointment and disillusionment. People who travel down this road come to realise that achieving lasting weight loss is more important than gaining just temporary weight loss and that, in fact, rapid weight loss is nearly always just temporary. People in this situation need to look carefully around for the answers to achieving long term sustainable weight loss, which may take longer to achieve but is a much more worthwhile destination.
Whilst some people decry government intervention in matters of health or lifestyle there is a growing awareness by many in positions of public responsibility that the cost to society of an unchecked epidemic of obesity could be very significant and this is driving a move to increase public awareness. The thought that the latest generation of children born in the west today might be the first ever to have a life expectancy LESS than their parents, is a sobering one. This is a result of the way we live today, but we do not have to put our children and ourselves at risk. We have a choice. If you are overweight you owe it to yourself to seek out healthy weight loss programs to join before this becomes a health issue.
